		IN the passing of Professor Ravinder Kumar on April 6, social scientists and, in particular, historians, have lost an impressive scholar, a valuable colleague and an admirable institution builder.
		Born in 1933, Ravinder Kumar was nurtured in a family of cultivated people with intellectual and social commitments.
		Ravinder's book dwells with insight on how these developments in town and country decisively influenced the quality and direction of social and political change in western India over time.

	Rediff On The NeT: Notice to CBI, 11 accused in MPs bribery case
		The designated court holding trial in the MPs bribery case today issued notices to the CBI and the 11 accused, returnable on September 14 on a petition by complainant Ravinder Kumar claiming that he was being offered money to dilute the case.
		Fixing September 14 for reply by the accused, the judge said in view of the allegation, the cross-examination of the complainant-witness would be held on a day-to-day basis.
		The judge also reserved till September 14 his verdict on the plea of the accused who have sought rejection of a cassette and an unsigned typed document produced as additional evidence by Ravinder Kumar.
