It was co-founded in 1967 by Ray Mungo, Marshall Bloom, and Verandah Porche when Mungo and Bloom left College Press Service (CPS) in a dispute.
"In 1967, Raymond Mungo attended a meeting in Czechoslovakia among radical journalists and representatives of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam.
Mungo described the split as between the "Vulgar Marxists" in New York and the "Virtuous Caucus" who "liberated" the printing press and moved it to Massachusetts.

After the show we talked with Ray and Jarvis for more as two hours, have some beers and a nice chat.
Ray signed some CD sleeves and the 7” sleeve “It’s A Goodie Boogie Woogie” Japan, I brought with me. Said goodbye around 9:45 and back to the camping because the gage of the camping closed at 10pm.
So this was the first Mungo Jerry gig we visit this summer but there are more gigs to see, our vacation can begin now but first we have to find some new pole's........

I must say that Ray amazed me on this trip, not just musically but in the way he stood and chatted to fans, who seemed to come from just about everywhere, and signed their albums and pictures.
Ray had been flown up on the Friday morning and Mick and the rest of the band arrived during the record fair on Saturday afternoon.
When it was all over, Ray left the stage to the strains of 'Mungo is a Geordie, Mungo is a Geordie', and just about made it back to the dressing room in one piece.

Between the writings Ray did, we shaked hands and Ray ask the security if his friends (Nienke en me) may come into the artist room, it’s Ok an Ray introduced us to Petra, a Mungo fan too (ofcourse) time for coffee and a chat and Ray signed some sleeves.
A half hour later again a taxi for Ray and Jarvis and after shake hands and say goodbye we walked back into the festival, hanging around and listen to the rest of the bands, together with Petra.

It's a shame that this book is out of print, because it tells the story of one man's adventures in a unique time and place in a way that is less successfully done in other such books.
Mungo was there at the creation, and he (usually) doesn't gloss over the failings of the hippies' original vision.
If the people in the book were alive they would have a great class action suit against Mungo.

Over the weekend of June 18th-19th, MUNGO JERRY celebrated their 35th anniversary with their fans with gigs held in the Newcastle Under-Lyme/Stoke-on-Trent area over the two days.
The Zounds compilation that Ray spoke of is to be released in September.
The Sanctuary compilation CD we mentioned recently is to be a double covering Ray's career from youth to the present day.

Other books from the TLF folks included, first of course, Ray Mungo's TOTAL LOSS FARM.
Ray and a couple friends from Liberation News Service bought the place, actually known as P-----'s C------, about a dozen miles from Brattleboro, Vt, and founded TLF.
Ray's book launched him into an orbit of TV talk shows and interviews worldwide; he was gone for years, may never have come back.

The big news is the release of a stonking new album by Mungo Jerry, or to be more accurate, by the Mungo Jerry Bluesband actually, later this year.
Most of the songs are by Ray Dorset but there are a few covers too.
Starting on September 3rd at Motherwell and continuing until October 13th at Guildford, Ray Dorset will be performing on a stage near you (in the UK) alongside Zoot Money and Long John Baldry.
