 Palmer, Raymond (Arthur) (1910-1977)
These same ideas also pervaded Amazing 's "readers' letters"—not surprisingly, since many of them were written by Palmer himself.
The magazine was facing extinction when, in an effort to boost sales, Palmer began running crazy stories, by Richard Shaver, of beings who lived underground and controlled people on the surface by means of invisible rays.
By taking advantage of the national post-War mood of insecurity, and by repeating his bizarre claims often enough, Palmer contributed to an undercurrent of suspicion which, by the start of the saucer flap in 1947, made it easier for people to accept the possibility of clandestine alien activity.

 WONDER'S CHILD
"A lot of the fans think I have gone Palmer one better, with a new Shaverism." (Raymond Palmer, one of my first fan correspondents and editor of Amazing through the 1940s, had gone farther off the deep end than Campbell ever did - he actually believed the Richard Shaver "articles" he published as fact.
In a crudely lurid hoax seemingly believed by legions of paranoid readers, Shaver was warning the world of the "deros," malevolent robots using sinister psychic powers to control humanity from a hidden underground world.

Mystery Man: Marjorie Palmer Remembers Richard Shaver - Interviewed by Ray Palmer

From Kenneth Arnold's Mt. Rainier saucer sighting, to the Shaver Mystery, to the events at Maury Island and beyond, Ray Palmer was on the case, with his wife, Marjorie, always at his side.
Nobody believed him but, as Jen [Ray Palmer's daughter, this interviewer's sister] said, she'd hear those voices coming out of his mouth and would be scared by them.

 Raymond Lister
Their impact on Palmer can be gauged by his rapturous and poetic description: they were “visions of little dells, and nooks, and corners of Paradise; models of the exquisitest pitch of intense poetry...
Palmer “ultimately recaptured a measure of the visionary outlook of his younger years” (165), but, as Lister argues in the fifth chapter, “A Harvest of Tragedy,” it was through etching rather than painting.
Their name for themselves—a rather ironic appellation given that Palmer was only 19 when he met Blake in 1824—expressed their desire to walk with Dante and Blake, and away from the modern and fashionably realistic art of the day.

The Elements of Scoring : A Master's Guide to the Art of Scoring Your Best When You're Not Playing Your Best by Raymond Floyd , Jaime Diaz , Fred Couples , Arnold Palmer : Book
Playing golf isn't hard; it's playing it well when you're not on your game that's difficult, and few have ever mastered that skill better than former Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA champion Raymond Floyd.
Floyd sets up various adverse situations and suggests ways to play through them, but his most important bits of wisdom are more generic than specific: learn what mistakes you can afford to make, and always have a dependable "safety shot" at your disposal when all else seems lost.
Floyd's Elements, then, is a comprehensive guide to posting scores you can be proud of on those rough days.
