Raymond Benson (born September 6, 1955) is an American author best known for being the last official author of the adult James Bond novels.
As a James Bond novelist, Raymond Benson was initially controversial for being American, and for ignoring much of the continuity established by Gardner.
Benson was the first Bond author since Ian Fleming to write short stories, although Benson's stories are uncollected unlike Fleming who had two anthology books published.

Whilst I do accept that it may be necessary to create the Bond environment, Benson went around it all the wrong way, inserting needless Fleming characters and references where they simply jar (despite the fact that the James Bond in his books bares very little resemblance to Mr Fleming's).
As for Benson, irritatingly in the novels I have read of his one can discern some potential in there, but most of it is squandered.
