Raymond Moriyama, B.Arch, M.Arch (born Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Japanese-Canadian architect.
Born in Vancouver, Raymond Moriyama received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto in 1954, and a Master of Architecture degree in civic and town planning from McGill University in 1957.
Raymond Moriyama is a founding partner of the internationally celebrated Toronto firm, Moriyama and Teshima Architects.

Raymond Moriyama, the internationally famous architect who was just elected to the post of Chancellor of Brock University, first decided he wanted to follow his chosen profession when he was four years old.
Moriyama met William Cavanagh, the principal of Ryerson Middle School in Hamilton, and Herbert Inman, physics teacher and coach at what was then Westdale Collegiate, in 1944, at the end of a gruelling period that had embittered Raymond and made him disinclined to continue with his education.
Moriyama’s father lost the family business, his mother miscarried, the children’s education was disrupted and the family was separated.

All right, I know I gave a thumbs down to the Canadian War Museum when they sent poor old Raymond, Big Name Canadian Architect, back to the drawing board after his three design proposals for the new museum building drew a yawn from the public.
Still, I have to admit that the new building seems at least as cool as any of the original three - it is sure to be quite a landmark on future Ottawa postcards.
The idea, as explained by Moriyama, is a message about how war changes landscapes - on several metaphorical levels.

In recognition of a long and distinguished career as an architect and planner, Raymond Moriyama will be presented with a Doctor of Architecture, honoris causa.
Moriyama has been honoured with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Gold Medal, the highest national award for an individual architect; an Honorary Fellowship from the American Institute of Architects; the Confederation of Canada Medal; and a Golden Jubilee Medal.
In 2001, Moriyama was also unanimously elected the Chancellor of Brock University, the first Canadian architect to receive such an honour.

Toronto's City Hall has a demonstration green roof project, while Mountain Equipment Co-op, an adventure outfitter with strong environmental leanings, has a green roof on their downtown Toronto store.
Probably the most famous Canadian green roof is the one on our new National War Museum, situated in the LeBreton Flats area of Ottawa and designed by Raymond Moriyama of Moriyama Teshima Planners Ltd. The project was designed on the theme of "regeneration", and the building lies half-buried in its landscape.
In fact, visitors can walk from a riverside promenade right up onto the roof of the building without noticing any change in the terrain.
