  Reload - Metallica - Review - Reload
Released 1997, Reload consists of material written and (partially) recorded at the same time as her sister record Load.
The album follows the 70’s Hard Rock sound of its sister album, Fuel is the obvious sequel to Ain’t My Bitch: both tracks wearing their Moterhead influence firmly on their sleeve.
Reload is, unlike Load, a mixed bag, both albums however deserve greater credit then the derisory yelps of ‘Alternica’ they provoked.

As a result, their continued foray into a more stripped-down, laid-back sound with this album has met a mixed response.
However, there's enough innovation and just plain strange stuff on this album to make it worth a listen.
The creepy "The Memory Remains" is perfectly accentuated by Marianne Faithfull's backing vocals, and "Where the Wild Things Are" features the multilayered vocals and guitars that Metallica is famous for, albeit at about half their usual speed.

The first song from the album, from which Metallica's weakest video was made, is "Fuel." Fortunately, the song is better than the video, and pretty much the only song on the album which presents the speed and thrash style fans found on Metallica's first album, Kill 'Em All.
The second song, and the first single from the album, is "The Memory Remains," a delicious 4 1/2 minute rock song with a great heavy main riff.
The trouble is, unlike most of their albums, there are a lot of really tiresome songs mixed in there as well.

Metallica : Reload - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Metallica recorded so much material for Load -- their first album in five years -- that they had to leave many songs unfinished, otherwise they would have missed their deadline.
During the supporting tour for Load, they continued to work on the unfinished material, as well as write new songs, and they soon had enough material for a new album, Reload.
The title suggests that Reload simply is a retread of its predecessor, and in many ways that's correct -- there's still too much bone-headed, heavy Southern rock for it to be anything other than the sequel to Load -- but there's enough left curves to make it a better record.

ReLoad isn't the mindless thrash that Metallica so frequently released in the 80's, but rather, this album is intense, complex, and overwhelmingly stylish.
Here he shows vocal maturity and composure than he never would have been able to attain on their earlier albums, and as a result, songs like this one are elevated to a whole new level.

Still, I didn't expect "Reload" to be nearly as bad as it is. I suppose at best it's a decent distraction, but there really isn't much here to write home about.
The hallmark of "Reload" is the chorus-ending line of "The Unforgiven II" wherein James Hetfield actually says "Because you're unforgiven too." It is stupid stuff like this that make me hate what Metallica has become.
"Reload" is a poor excuse for an album, and is easily Metallica's worst yet.

Review | Reload by Tom Jones
All but three of the 17 tracks on Reload follow the "Kiss" formula: Jones teams with another pop artist to cover someone else's song in a performance both campy and passionate.
Although the album features several of the standards and oldies often found on cover albums (though they rarely sound this fresh and exciting), Jones' daring and eclectic selection also includes songs by the likes of Portishead, INXS, Fine Young Cannibals and Iggy Pop.
Reload celebrates Jones' love of the pop song in all its incarnations -- from jazz and soul to rock and triphop -- by showcasing compositions from each of the last six decades (and one traditional).
