Char Reactivities to Oxygen at Elevated Pressures   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Despite the numerous studies concerned with char oxidation, the database on pressurized char reactivity to oxygen is rather limited.
In the initial phases of this project, we have measured the intrinsic chemical reactivities of synthetic chars at 0.1, 0.4 and 0.9 MPa and at oxygen mole fractions of 0.06 and 0.12 for temperatures between 673 K and 873 K in a thermogravimetric analyzer.
Using the mechanism, it is possible to predict adequately the measured reactivities at the various oxygen mole fractions and total pressures used in the high-pressure experiments.

While there is thus a comprehensive catalogue of effector mechanisms that have all been shown to work in one system or the other, the relative importance of each of these mechanisms in the naturally acquired or artificially induced immunity to malaria is still largely unknown.
This possibility is likely to be of particular relevance in malaria-endemic areas, where individuals are challenged regularly through natural infection, with consequences for the distribution of cells of the immune system in various compartments, not least in the cell-wise relatively small peripheral circulation.
If this is the case, reactivity of peripheral cells in any given assay may not be particularly useful, since they may not give a representative picture of the in vivo response to infection.

Incremental reactivities are defined as the change in to ozone formation or OR radical levels caused by adding the VOC to a "base case" experiment, divided by the amount added.
The model simulated reactivities in experiments with the more complex surrogate reasonably well, though it was more variable in the simulations of the simpler systems, which are more sensitive to differences among the VOCs.
Thus the best use for data from incremental reactivity experiments is evaluating the models used to predict reactivities in the atmosphere.

Chemical reactivity is the tendency of a substance to undergo chemical changes in a system.
An internet search using the key word "chemical reactivity" also gives databases for health and safety, which is hyperlinked to many sites.
For such an approach, the reactivities of A, B, C, and D are used in place of the concentrations in the definition of K.

Research Abstract: 1983-05-00 Evaluation of Hydrocarbon Reactivities for Use in Control Strategies
While it is well recognized that organics emitted into the atmosphere have a wide range of reactivities, the precise definition and ranking of organic reactivities is still a matter of debate, and in fact depends on the actual physical and chemical environment considered.
Moreover, because of the recently recognized influence of chamber-dependent radical initiation processes on the gas phase chemistry of irradiated NOx- organic-air mixtures, data obtained from single NOx-organic-air systems are of only qualitative value.
Of particular interest was the observation that, with respect to maximum O3 yields, negative reactivities were observed for toluene and benzaldehyde, (i.e, the maximum O3 concentrations were reduced in the presence of these two organics), while propene and trans-2-butene exhibited slightly negative or zero reactivities under the particular experimental conditions employed.
