Reading railway station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Reading is a major junction point on the National Rail system, and as a consequence the railway station is a major transfer point as well as serving heavy originating and terminating traffic.
In 1965 Reading Southern, the South Eastern station, was closed, and the services using it diverted into a newly constructed terminal platform in the General station.
Irrespective of railway developments, local authority plans show a comprehensive redevelopment of the area between the town centre and the river, including the station, by 2020.

 Reading Station
As Reading at that time was only to the south of the station, he decided that both trains to London and to Bristol would stop on the side nearest the town.
The railway, on its embankment, was well above the level of the rest of the ground, with a deep dip between the town and the station.
Reading Station with its one platform was then rebuilt in 1896.

 The Great Western Railway
West of Reading he planned that the railway should follow the course of the Thames and pass through the valley of the Chilterns.
The railway was, in fact, difficult to construct throughout because the level part along the coast had to be laid between the sea and the cliffs.
When the war was finished, the railways, the lines, the rolling-stock and plant which had been requisitioned by the Government were handed back to their owners, and a measure of compensation presented for the loss they had inevitably sustained.

It is important that the signal of interest, in this case the response due to the train source is clearly above ambient levels
Un-isolated columns on gridline G are further from the railway tracks and measured 36.6m from isolated columns on gridline B. Figure 8.29 compares the total transmissibility across the top and base of un-isolated column G15 to similar points on isolated column B15, for a background sample.
A railway bridge carrying all the tracks over a road also adjoins the site and is founded into the chalk, onto which stratum piles for the new building were to be founded.
Such a situation is characteristic of a railway source at grade, which tend to propagate energy at low frequencies, which makes it impossible to evaluate performance at high frequencies because of masking by background noise.

In 30th March 1840 the line from Reading to London was at last completed, and the people were able to travel to London from Reading Station for the first time.
Although some people in Reading were against the Railway, most of the ordinary people in the town thought that it would improve the town.

Milton Railway Station Campaign - Guided Busway on St.Ives Railway
Whilst people may need to drive to a railway station, or even take a bus to it, the guided bus theory says they can get to their final destination using just one bus virtually from their doorstop.
The CAST.IRON (Cambridge to St.Ives Railway Organisation) proposal (see http://www.castiron.org.uk) is to initially run trains between the Cambridge Regional College and Swavesey, and once these are operating well, then extend in both directions: to St.Ives and towards Cambridge 'Central' station.
Ultimately the railway could be extended to Huntingdon, but they ignore the fact that Cambridge to Peterborough via Huntingdon is 10-15 minutes faster than the current route via Ely, and that owing to increased freight at Ely, some passenger trains would switch to Huntingdon.
