ANARCHISM.net: The New Libertarian Manifesto, by Samuel Edward Konkin III   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-09)
The basic form of new Libertarianism arose during my struggle with the Libertarian Party during its formation in 1973, and Counter-Economics was first put forward to the public at the Free Enterprise Forum in Los Angeles in February 1974.
Libertarianism asked why society was not libertarian now and found the State, its ruling class, its camouflage, and the heroic historians striving to reveal the truth.
A “Libertarian” Party was the second counter-attack of the State unleashed on the fledgling Libertarians, first as a ludicrous oxymoron [10], then as an invading army.

 Real World Libertarian - History
Libertarianism combines the fiscal responsibility that the GOP pays lip service to with the personal choice and freedom that the Democrats claim to support.
The mission of the Real World Libertarian Caucus is to recruit and support Real World Candidates for public office; to reform the culture and structure of the Libertarian Party to make it more mainstream; and to redefine the public perception of the LP to move public policy in a more libertarian direction.
In short, the Libertarian Party has spent too much time serving as a philosophical think tank and too little time working on ways to apply its core principle of individual freedom to the real world we live in.

UPR represents a libertarian viewpoint, but I have to say that it seems to be hampered by the personality of its leader and most visible spokesman, who just rubs people the wrong way, as if a libertarian set of positions wasn't enough already.

Libertarian Party (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Libertarians reject the view of politics as a one-dimensional spectrum, divided between Democrats representing the left or center-left and Republicans representing the right or center-right.
To illustrate their view that the one-dimensional view of politics is insufficient to describe the myriad political philosophies held by the public, Libertarians introduced the Nolan chart to communicate their belief that politics is at least two-dimensional.

The Real World Libertarian Caucus was a caucus within the Libertarian Party of the United States.

His first problem is that he takes the fall of communism and extends that to the triumph of libertarianism.
I also note he mentions “the unprecedented percentage of the world’s people living in free democratic countries” — something that wouldn’t happen if the pacifist isolationists in the LP were running things in the early 1940s.
I’ve made similar points in a speech to the Libertarian Party of North Carolina and on my LJ, however his scenario seems a bit contrived.

In the real world, direct democracy can be expected to produce large numbers of wrong choices whenever the average voter is unable to become sufficiently informed on complex policy matters to render a correct judgement.
In the real world, the dedicated group – the legislature – achieve their positions via political parties, to which they owe fealty to a greater or lesser degree.
Another Libertarian was seeking the party’s nomination, but it was felt that I would be a better representative of the party, particularly in the TV debates which I was assured were almost certain to include the eventual Libertarian candidate.

The caucus was formed in 2004 at the Libertarian National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and disbanded shortly thereafter as several organizers left the LP.

Giving realism a bad name (Charles Krauthammer) (12/1) - Now that the "realists" have ridden into town gleefully consigning the Bush doctrine to the ash heap of history, everyone has discovered the notion of interests, as if it were some new idea thought up by James Baker and the Iraq Study Group.

It's clear that the economic libertarians (social conservatives som etimes call them 'business conservatives' but conservative is a misnomer here) are not nearly as interested in the court nomination battles as the social lefties and the social conservatives.
It really doesn't make sense that the only limit from those two words is that any property taken must result in something better than that which came before it - better, after all, is defined by the legislatures and not the courts.

Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) creates new caucus, organized by Rep. Leon Drolet, for legislators in Michigan who firmly believe in the rights of the taxpayers and are committed to stop tax increases.
The creation of the caucus comes as no surprise, as state after state around the nation have fallen victim to overspending in their capitals, which has threatened taxpayers with potential tax increases.
To join the caucus, legislators must sign and keep ATR's Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which is a written promise to their constituents to "oppose any and all efforts to increase taxes." Every state (with the exception of Nebraska) will have both a Senate and House Taxpayer Protection Caucus, consisting of all pledge signers in the legislature.

In its simplest form (as a first order normative doctrine), the libertarian left has two core beliefs: (1) the self-ownership of all agents (individuals and groups) and (2) the egalitarian ownership of all natural resources.

This redistricting meant that the three net seats they gained in 2004 were not a consequence of a real expansion of their majority, but rather a slight shrinking of their majority counteracted by redistricting.
If we control for this “inflation,” we would say that, in real terms, the GOP actually has one fewer seat in the 109th than it did in the 108th – 228 “real” seats.
If Tufte/Jacobson is a completely true theory of how congressional elections operate, and the only reason the real world varies from its predictions is because of random “noise”, a Democratic recapture of the House is improbable but not impossible.
