While RealNetworks is the only plaintiff in the suit, experts say it could be helped later by other companies with similar concerns within their own markets.
RealNetworks argues that despite the innovation of its product line that has helped placed the company on track for its sixth straight quarter of revenue growth, the company's business would be substantially larger if Microsoft played by the rules and did not unfairly leverage its Windows monopoly.

 RealNetworks sues Microsoft
RealNetworks Inc., the Seattle-based software maker dogged by Microsoft Corp. throughout its 10-year life, yesterday filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against its nemesis, alleging that the Redmond company has tried to use its monopoly power in PC operating systems to unlawfully dominate the digital media market.
Microsoft called the RealNetworks suit "a rehash of the same issues that have already been the subject of extensive litigation and a tough but fair resolution of the government antitrust lawsuit." The statement said the company is "committed to full compliance" with the "significant restrictions" imposed on its business practices through the government settlement.
RealNetworks is represented in the case by The Summit Law Group of Seattle and by Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott of Denver, best known for representing George W. Bush in the Florida election recount case in 2000.
