Niche Business   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Though a niche in either Classical or Gothic context may be empty and merely provide some articulation and variety to a section of wall, the cult origins of the niche suggested that it be filled with a statue.
In ecology, a niche is a term describing the relational position of a species or population in an ecosystem.
The niche that was left vacant by the extinction of the tarpan has been filled by other animals (in particular a small horse breed, the konik).

The niche of several species of woodpeckers, owls, chickadees and other birds, as well as flying squirrels, might entail using tree cavities for nesting or roosting.
Fundamental vs. realized niche -- in the absence of competitors (that absence may not actually occur in the real world) a species will tend to have a characteristic niche width.
In the presence of competitors, however, it may be restricted to a narrower portion of its fundamental niche -- that is its realized niche.

 The Ontology of Brands
Brand realism is compatible with the idealist claims that it is the augmented product, through the application of names, symbols, and advertising, that turns unbranded products into brands, and that products are of interest for marketing only to the extent of being actionable.
Many believed that the distance to the niche occupied by Pepsi, a brand which is often considered to be sweeter, had been reduced and that an overlap of the two niches had been brought about where consumers wanted these niches to be discrete.
In population ecology, a niche is understood as an n-dimensional hypervolume of ecological space, i.e.

Width sizing complicates production because it requires shorter, more flexible runs and because workers must use multiple lasts, the molds on which shoes are built.
Width sizing is expensive, but it ensures a more customized fit, and Davis thinks well-fitting shoes will grow in importance as the population ages.

Forest Faunal Systems of Lasting Forests
Habitat, niche, community - landscape, management area, forest - all are discussed and debated because of confusion in meaning, ignorance of or unwillingness to accept first-use definitions, unwillingness to move to common terminology and to develop alternative taxonomy as new knowledge suggests meaningful change.
When, therefore, we speak of forested areas as the home and creative center of wildlife, we are using a figure of speech and we could more literally and truthfully say that they are the conservators and the source of wildlife about in proportion to their departure from the standards of an ideal forest.
The reality of lands needed is blurred by whether land for fauna should be studied as if it is producing naturally or producing as it might under sophisticated management.

RedOrbit NEWS | Competitive and Facilitative Evolutionary Diversification
With the advent of genetics, biologists realized that one fundamental issue involved in the evolutionary diversification of sexual organisms is the evolution of reproductive isolation, the equivalent of speciation according to the concept of biological species (Dobzhansky 1951, Mayr 1963, Kondrashov and Mina 1986, Johnson and Gullberg 1998).
The concept is based on the notion that the environment is made up of different ecological niches (the variety of consumable resources and other factors such as temperature and humidity) and that the availability of these niches is a primary determinant of the number of species that are expected (Lack 1944, Dobzhansky 1951).
Together, the concepts of niche dimensionality, competitive exclusion, and limiting similarity highlighted the fact that there are countless ways in which evolutionary diversification might fill up available niche space, but that coexisting species still must somehow differ in their resource use (Tilman 1982).

Contrariwise, as the real change in the environment increases from generation to generation (m increases), it is best to trust more in own experience even at the risk happening to get the wrong answer by chance.
