Other tracks were definitely recorded in the studio, but since the liner notes are somewhat limited to describing the songs, (in Chinese and English), it's a little hard to tell.
Recorded in the US and seemingly made with the "blessing" of the Dalai Lama himself, it is a chance to hear a wide variety of secular folk music from this inaccessible land.
The recording opens with a stunning lha-mo (opera) song, sung solo in a wide open and strong voice, and then followed by a lush drinking song with a female chorus and an ensemble of strings.

"The Journey" is an appropriate title for this release by Somalian Maryam Mursal, for the events that led to her arrival in the Western world (and subsequently to her relationship with Realworld Records) made for an incredible journey indeed.
Forced to escape from Somalia during the Civil War earlier this decade, Mursal spent weeks wandering through the deserts of Northeastern Africa until she and her family finally found freedom and passage to the West.
A singer in her native country, she was 'discovered' and eventually began recording at Realworld, fronting the band Waaberi (traditional Somali band).

Recordings of Bangladeshi Sufi music are extremely rare in the West, though the biggest emigrant population is in the UK, where 234,000 Bangladeshi's live (UK Office for National Statistics).
Though not a Sufi recording as such, it is a significant event to have musicians trying to restore their folkloric background against the tide of political disapproval.
With modern recording equipment and techniques imported from the West, much of this living tradition is in danger of being lost, through greater and greater reliance on such technology.

Note that although station WMMR has announced that tickets for the Spectrum in Philadelphia will go on sale on May 15 Yes Management has advised that is very unlikely to happen and that the venue and on sale date has not been confirmed.
Recording will commence this September with the London Symphony Orchestra and The English Chamber Choir.
I had not heard any of their records at that stage, but I attended their concert with some fellow musicians.

With the freedom of not having to comply with a normal record company budget, Tony has designed an unusual package for his cd, using his hand-tinted bandw photos, in a cardboard container, devoid of plastic, which is reminiscent of old lp covers.
The title refers to their similar ancestry, to the intertwining musical lines of the piece, and to the photo Tony took of the doudouk and the bass bow.
The genesis of this piece was simply Ayub showing Tony the tuning of his nyatiti (a lute type instrument from Kenya.) David Botrill, the noted engineer, wisely rolled tape, and put up mikes to catch the musicians' feet stamping.

 Afro Celt Sound System Fan Website - ACSS News
The film "Bosta" for which Martin and Simon produced the soundtrack has been screened to a full house in London in support of the Red Cross and you may have heard the ACSS track "Silken Whip" while watching the Ryder Cup.
According to Real World Records, the Afro Celts' new CD entitled "Anatomic" will be released on 10 September 2005.
Iarla has finished recording a new CD to be released next year on RealWorld Records and will be performing on the "If I Could Read The Sky" tour in the U.K. next month.

 Review Music - Michael Brook
His musical peak was reached in 1992 with the release of his stunning record: Cobalt Blue (and the follow-up recording Live at the Aquarium, also recorded in 1992).
While I am a big fan of Eno's work, and Michael Brook's solo material, this record does not impress me. My feeling is that it is not ambient enough to be ambient music, but also it is not interesting enough to hold my attention.
This record is credited to Nustrat, though in looking carefully at the song credits you can tell the music here owes more to Michael Brook than it does to Nusrat.

Brendan Perry (from Dead Can Dance) was the reason I picked up my first discs from this label (at the time I was buying music specifically by the label instead of by the band).
There is currently Silber media, Latex records, Metropolis, Black Rain, Fossil Dungeon, Realworld, Sinister records that I recommend like I used to recommend those other bands.
These CDs transcend music and create sound for your head as well as sound for your everyday boring life, unlike any other currently released recordings this is what I'd like to have as a "soundtrack for my life".

They are usually recorded with two microphones, "dummy head" microphones, or remastered from original recordings.

In '96 they released the Bangladesh EP on Nation Records, although this wasn't followed up until they released their debut album on Realworld Records early in 1999 complete with two singles, Fingers and Asian Vibes, the latter with support from Justin Robertson, aka Lionrock.
This was one of the first vinyls from Joi and to those who ever witnessed their live gigs back in the early '90s it features one of their best known tracks, Everybody Say Yeah!.
Joi released their second album, titled 'We are Three', on Real World Records (10/2000) and on Astralwerks in the US (9/2000).
