The central character in Return To Eden is Stephanie Harper, played beautifully by Rebecca Gilling, who is a middle aged, rather niave and plain looking mining magnates daughter and mother of two.
Return To Eden is not least redeemed by its ludicrously over-the-top plot line by an engaging performance from its leading star, Rebecca Gilling, an acclaimed Australian actress.
Rebecca Gilling is both beleavable and likeable in her role as Stephanie Harper/Tara Welles.

 Return to Eden - DVD Reviews - Film - Entertainment - smh.com.au
Rebecca Gilling, James Smilie, Peta Toppano, Daniel Abineri, Peter Cousens, Megan Williams.
Rebecca Gilling shines as the ever-suffering Stephanie and Peta Toppano replaces Wendy Hughes as the batty Jilly, but this outing stumbles because it overuses the gimmicks of the genre: long-lost siblings and parents (at least five by the ninth episode), Stephanie faking her own death and crocodile attacks (both copied from the original).
A four-minute ending (filmed after the series was axed) that wraps up the cliffhanging finale (one character dead, another accused of the murder) was left off.

Like the US show from which I suspect this was blatantly copied, this was one show where the bad guys where much more interesting, believable, and let's face it, much more fun than the good guys.
The main protagonists are all fabulously tanned, wealthy and good looking (Rebecca Gilling, Megan Williams and Peta Topanno were absolutely STUNNING in those days), and bore about as much semblance to reality as JR Ewing did, too.
Daniel Abineri was a wonderful villain; Peta mad a good counterfoil to him; and Rebecca - well, she was just overwhelmed by sugar and spice.

Return To Eden - Soap Chat
Although Rebecca Gilling, previously one of the dashing medicos in THE YOUNG DOCTORS, was a compelling heroine as Stephanie, the real star of the show was Peta Toppano, who had earned her soap stripes playing Karen Travers, the first middle-class goodie inmate of PRISONER: CELL BLOCK H, obviously enjoying herself as the sequinned superbitch Jilly.
Both rebecca gilling and peta toppano also appeared in 'the young doctors' too.
Unfortunately, the ratings in Australia weren't high enough to justify a conclusion despite the fact that the series was massively popular around the world - Rebecca Gilling was voted Best Actress in Yugoslavia and was flown over to Poland and Indonesia to make personal appearances where she was mobbed.

Australia's Role in the Global Kung Fu Trend: The Man from Hong Kong
On a structural level, both are co-productions with their lead protagonists being foreign men who come to Australia at different periods of time but share a common experience as migrants (or perhaps, a would-be migrant in the case of the eponymous man from Hong Kong).
The roles of the two female characters Caroline and Angelica (played respectively by Ros Spiers and Rebecca Gilling) serve to shore up Wang's heroic persona from a sexual perspective - at the same time they also serve to make the point about overcoming local prejudices.
Like Nino, Fang is denoted as a foreign male who makes sexual conquests of Australian women, but while Nino had to assiduously woo the woman of his desire (effectively, Nino had to work very hard to gain the acceptance of the Australian community), Fang's sexual relationships are practically given.

Movie Review - Man from Hong Kong, The - eFilmCritic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
The fight scenes are endless, long and painful looking, but usually imaginatively shot (the opening takes place on Ayers Rock and throws in a helicopter chase for good measure).
The same cannot be said for a clichéd montage of love moments between Wang and a young Rebecca Gibney that comes across like a 1970s cigarette commercial.
Wang’s ability to casually bed white women and thwart a white Australian villain was progressive for 1975, although local cops (including Hugh Keays-Byrne) and racist jokes would have reassured Australian audiences.
