		Rebel Yell is the second album by British rocker Billy Idol, released in 1984 (see 1984 in music).
		The album reunited the hit-making team of Billy Idol, Steve Stevens and Keith Forsey, after their success with Idol's solo debut, Billy Idol (1982).
		In 1999, EMI re-issued the album as part of their "Expanded" series.

		The 'session take' of the title track certainly isn't as powerful as the album version, but still, it's welcome to hear it in a relatively stripped-down form, plus the lyrics are a bit different, as is the arrangement which hadn't been perfected yet.
		The album's true highlight, and Idol's biggest accomplishment comes next with the eloquently gorgeous "Eyes without a Face." With its haunting female backup singing, (courtesy of Perri Lister) pulsating bass, trippy guitar work, cool-new-wave synths, this is Idol's shining moment.
		But "Rebel Yell" is hardly an example of style over substance; as the album has oodles of both.

		The title might as well have also referred to the recording sessions, which were ripe with drama, including an album whose drummer was snatched from another album project, a title track that needed re-recording, and a battle between the artist and his record label.
		While the original version of “Rebel Yell” was cut to a Linn drum, the re-cut version built up from a live base of rhythm guitar, bass and drums.

		One of the enduring legends of the War Between the States is that of the Rebel Yell.
		It was done during the Civil War Centennial for an album of Southern music entitled "The Confederacy." The composer was Richard Bales, who was one of H. Allen Smith's demonstrators, and his "Oooo-eeeey" is contained at the end of the last tract of the album as background for the concluding strains of Dixie.
		At the time the Yell became famous, its sponsors were simply yelling in an excited manner, the way all soldiers have yelled for time immemorial, and the yell they selected was surely the same one they used back home when they were excited.

		There are so many great songs on this album, if you look past "rebel yell" and "flesh for fantasy", you will find such rythmic gems as "Blue Highway" and "Catch my Fall".
		If you don't already own Rebel Yell, (probably because the rock you were under was a bit too heavy to lift) than you should definately get the expanded edition.
		This is one album you won't regret buying, unless you dropped it on your way home and it shattered, then you may regret it, but actually now that i think about it you would probably regret dropping it more than buying it, plus there's always glue.

		This album produced in 1984 has a futuristic sound that makes it timeless and sleekly modern.
		Stevie Stevens is fantastic-his playing is flashy and bold in places, soothing and melodic in others, but always impeccably tasteful, creating textures and gunfire power chords out of his sacred axe.
		"Rebel Yell" is a great "White Wedding" sound alike, and "Eyes Without a Face" is a great song which was probably a real breakthrough for Billy.
