MousePlanet - Home Theater and Entertainment
Recess has all the pieces, including the big laser gun that comes out of the roof of the school, a masked Principal Prickly imposter, sunglass-wearing thugs and guards, ninja that appear from nowhere, and so on.
Several scenes are enhanced with shadows on the characters or refelections, which probably would not appear on the TV show, but it is clear that the goal was to make an inexpensive animated feature.
On the other hand, if your children are big fans of either the TV series or the movie, you might get a lot of playability out of the DVD, making this disc probably worth it.

Recess is a general term for a period of time in which a group of people is temporarily dismissed from its duties.
In parliamentary procedure, "recess" refers to legislative bodies—such as parliaments, assemblies, juries—that are released to reassemble at a later time.
In North America, the point where recess ends in a child's education is largely dependent on the school district, though by many standards it is removed when the child enters middle school.

After attending a screening of "Recess: School's Out," I had the chance to sit down, the next morning, and watch a marathon of "Disney's Recess" TV series.
The TV program is good, with intelligent kids, witty dialogue and a different moral message every show.
Expanded for the big screen from the Disney Channel's popular "Recess" series, "Recess: School's Out" is a terrific tale for kids that includes plenty for adults to enjoy as well.

Recess Christmas: Miracle On Third Street (2001)
Share a hilarious and joyous holiday with the kids from the hit TV series Recess as they convince the Third Street Elementary School teachers that miracles really do come true at this special time of year.
Since I remain a relative Recess neophyte, all of the footage was new to me. Actually, I figured the clips were recycled mainly because of variations in animation; they simply looked different from segment to segment, and the contrast was strongest with the new expository shots.
Recess appears to be a good little show, and this DVD offers some fine moments from it.

 Recess (TV series)
Recess was a Saturday morning cartoon, created by Paul Germain and Joe Ansolabehere (both part of the Rugrats creative team), and produced by Walt Disney Television Animation.
'Recess' was a popular and successful show, and spun-off three direct-to-video films (one in 2001, two more in 2003) and an animated feature, 'Recess: School's Out', in 2001.
Although she seems uptight and militaristic, we learn in a Recess special that she used to be a kind, grandmotherly old teacher until one student caused a lot of trouble, triggering her so-called "dark side".

Recess Taking The Fifth Grade is awesome. This video movie is based on the Recess series and theatrical movie.
There are three new episodes where TJ stands up against school changes, the gang discover a 5th/6th grade club under the jungle gym, and when Spinelli thinks she is too old for Halloween (this episode is great for kids around 10 who are questioning whether celebrating Halloween is childish or not).
This DVD is announced as the final chapter to the Recess series, and I find it as a hollow disappointing finale (considering it's supposed to be the finale.) I was expecting something grand, exciting, and momunmental like the Recess: School's Out movie but the three stories seemed average and kind of flat.

Recess School's Out would fit in this category if it weren't for just one thing, every now and again there are some strange artifacts associated with character movements.
With that out of the way suffice it to say that if you and/or your children are fans of the Recess series, this one will be a must add to your DVD collection.
If you are a fan of the series though my guess is that you won't be at all disappointed by this everything for the family film.

Let me tell you, sneaking 15 minutes of a fuzzy radio broadcast on the playground while an angry, sadistic nun yells at you to get inside to go over your times tables is no way to follow the most important baseball games of the season.
These whiners think that kids aren't able to watch World Series games, because the games end well past their bedtime (most kids go to bed by the sixth inning, which is usually when Fox airs its 15th promotion for "24").
Stolen moments are not as good as watching an entire game, and besides, kids today can't listen to the World Series on their Walkmans at school, because they're too busy ducking automatic weapons fire from classmates in fl trenchcoats.

 Recess - Television Review
RECESS abounds with clever insights into a child's perspective.
The rest of the kids on the playground are given labels, such as Guru Kid, Upside-Down Girl, and the Diggers (twin brothers who dig holes all around the playground), and yet rather than represent generic types, they celebrate children's unique preferences and peculiarities.
Recess delights in presenting the obsessions of childhood, which kids sadly outgrow as self-consciousness kicks in, as perfectly normal.

Disney's Recess: School's Out, a modestly animated big-screen version of their Saturday cartoon show, is charmingly funny, in no small part to its subtle message about letting kids being kids.
You don't have to be a follower of the TV series (I'm not much of one) to appreciate its winning message, or its hilarious use of celebrity voices.
There's also a very strange 1960's mojo about this movie; there's a corny flashback to the principal's hippie days, and the soundtrack is loaded with one-hit oldies such as Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense and Peppermints." Happily, this leads to the movie's wittiest moment of all: a closing rendition of "Green Tambourine" warbled by Robert Goulet.
