Red Cliffs Backpackers is located in the heart of the Red Cliffs township which is 15km from Mildura.
This is also right in the heart of the farming land, which means we are very close to the different farms that rely on employing backpackers all year round.
Red Cliffs is quite boring, but that just makes the hostel more fun because everyone gets together to do things.

James Howard Browne was born in Melbourne in 1919 and grew up in Red Cliffs where he has spent most of his life apart from the war years.
He discovered at least 17 new species for Victoria, including Calandrinia volubilis in 1974, the first Australian record for that species since 1863, Halosarcia syncarpa first Victorian record since 1897, and the rediscovery in Victoria of Sarcozona praecox which was presumed extinct.

As Red Cliffs was to be opened up for Soldier Settlement, he won the Government contract to clear Red Cliffs of scrub, thus enabling this massive machine to clear all manner of trees in a short time.
After five years of work at Red Cliffs, Big Lizzie and two trailers began the slow retreat to Glendinning Station near Balmoral, Victoria.
Some 40 years later this rusty old, heap of machinery was purchased by a Big Lizzie Committee to be a proud part of the 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations of Red Cliffs.

The luscious and voluptuous '99 Booth's Taminick Premium Shiraz, of which I bought two dozen.
