A dragon was borne by the English army at the battle of Lewes in 1216 and later Henry III had a dragon standard made to be placed in the re-built Abbey at Westminster.
The Welsh dragon was used in the royal arms in the 15th Century, but with the Union of the Crowns of Scotland and England in 1605, when James VI (Scotland) became James I (England), the Welsh influence seems to have disappeared.
Edward, Prince of Wales', flag was quartered red lion on yellow and yellow lion on red, and is known as the flag of Llewelyn.

Red Dragon is certainly worthy of its relationship to Silence of the Lambs (unlike the superfluous Hannibal).
Red Dragon, the film, is more an annoying example of Hollywood's mewling efforts to create continuity by simply milking a concept for all it's worth, than a quality adaptation of good material.
Red Dragon is a lot like the LA Lakers, an assembly of mercenary talent that when cobbled together fails to claim it's own life as more than the sum of it's parts.

Red Dragon is a straightforward academic film that lacks Manhunter's visual style and symbolism.
Except for the tattoo of the dragon and the sleeping tiger that symbolize Tooth Fairy, the film remains in 1st degree entertainment mode.
Red Dragon loses at the psychological level and in intensity but mostly fails because of its Hollywood style blow-everything-up-with-a-twist ending can't match Manhunter's nightmarish and claustrophobic climax.

I saw Red Dragon, and I have to say, it is by far, the most terrifying of the the three.
I was never scared in the sequels as I was in Red Dragon; however, I will admit that I think Lecter was the creepiest in Silence Of The Lambs - probably because that was his first take on the character; yet if anyone has ever owned a character it is Anthony Hopkins.
