Red Hand Commandos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Red Hand Commandos (originally known simply as the "Red Hand Commando") are a Northern Ireland loyalist paramilitary (terrorist) group with links to the Ulster Volunteer Force.
The RHC was formed in 1972 and had its most support in east Belfast, particularly in the Sandy Row area, and parts of County Down.
The UVF and Red Hand Commando supported the signing of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement and maintained a ceasefire from 1994 until the autumn of 2005.

 Gardai cover-up
As revealed in last week's edition Seamus Ludlow's killers were three members of a Red Hand Commando unit, two of whom were officers in the British Army's Ulster Defence Regiment, who drove across the Border on the night of May 1st, 1976 to carry out the killing.
The failure of the RUC to bring charges either now or in the past has fuelled speculation that at least one of the Red Hand Commandos was a security force agent and that the killing was covered up in 1976 in order to protect an informer.
This raises the intriguing possibility that if there was an informer in the midst of the Red Hand Commando unit he may have been working for British military intelligence rather than the police.

Hosking gives his report to the RUC Special Branch a full account of the murder, including the name of the person who he said did the actual shooting, and yet it was not until 1998, a year after the case was reopened that the four were arrested for this murder.
Hosking stated the murder was carried out by three (3) UDR soldiers who were also members of the Loyalist Red Hand Commandos, and he also stated in the National Press that the Garda were aware of their identities in 1979.
The decision by the Northern Director of Public Prosecutions not to press charges over the murder brings a very strong belief by many that there has been a cover up by both the Garda and the RUC for over two decades.
