One of three new Schwarzenegger back catalogue titles released by Universal this month (I could sum “Red Sonja” and “Raw Deal” up within two sentences so this was the better option to review), “Red Heat” isn’t one of Arnie’s best moments — but it’s still a good one.
Released the same year as his comedy debut, “Twins”, and before his peak with “T2” and “Total Recall”, Walter Hill’s “Red Heat” casts the Austrian Oak as a Russian Police Officer who teams with a portly American Cop (James Belushi, no less) to capture a Russian criminal who fled while awaiting extradition.
A mish-mash of over-the-top action sequences and understated humour (naturally, the two lead characters have to put beside their differences to work with each other), “Red Heat” is for all intents and purposes your typical 80’s action movie.
