Red Hook is the only part of New York City that, on land, has a full frontal view of the Statue of Liberty, which was oriented to face Prospect Park.

Red Hook has long been divided between the residents of “the Back”—predominantly white homeowners living on the waterfront—and the residents of the Houses, who are predominantly fl and Latino and constitute the majority of the neighborhood’s population, outnumbering residents of “the Back” two to one.
