	Red Lake History
		Red Lake County, the mecca of home seekers, the brightest star in that terrestrial milky way known as the Red River Valley, though the youngest county in the state in point of years, is old in its battle, not for existence, but for their right to exist.
		Red Lake County has become a bright and shining mark upon the map, and the visions of prosperity which seemed but dreams to the rebels of 1886 have become a glorified reality to the patriots of 1901.
		The soils of Red Lake County are the result of the sorting action of this water or developed on the sediments of this glacial lake.

	Red River Prairie
		Red River Prairie is a subsection of the North Central Glaciated Plains Section of the Prairie Parkland Province (Figure 8.1) (Minnesota DNR 1998).
		The subsection consists primarily of a level glacial lake plain, draining to the north by the Red River and its tributaries (Figure 8.23.1.a).

	History of Red Lake County
		Fred E. Cyr was born on the banks of the Clearwater River one mile from Red Lake Falls in the year 1882, the son of Joseph Cyr.
		Logs were boomed and towed across Clearwater Lake with a steam outfit and growser.
		There was a sawmill at Red Lake Falls later on, and logs came Jo that mill from the Red Lake River.

	Red Lake River Canoe and Small Boat Route
		The river trail is broken into seven segment maps: (1) Lower Red Lake To High Landing, (2) High Landing to Thief River Falls, (3) Thief River Falls to Red Lake Falls, (4) Red Lake Falls to Huot, (5) Huot to Crookston, (6) Crookston to Fisher, and (7) Fisher to East Grand Forks.

		Soon after Red Lake was officially declared a county, the residents of Thief River Falls began a campaign to name their city as the county seat.
		The name Lake Agassiz was given this prehistoric glacial lake by Warren Upham in 1879 in the Eighth Annual Report of the Minnesota Geological Survey.According to Upham, the first true explanation of the lake's existence was presented by a geologist professor of the university in 1872.
		Red Lake Falls' appreciation has culminated in the establishment of the permanent memorial to Pierre Bottineau in St. Joseph's Cemetery.The memorial is located on a triangle from which one can look south to Pierre's homestead.

		The Red Lake River is one of the few canoeing rivers in northwest Minnesota, the Red Lake flows westward from Upper and Lower Red Lake to join the Red River in East Grand Forks.
		In its lower reaches the river meanders through farmland, often screened from the river by stands of elm, willow and cottonwood.
		The Red Lake River is particularly noted for its channel catfish angling.
