		The Red Line is the newest of the MBTA rapid transit lines in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
		The Red Line was the last of the four lines to begin construction, with the Cambridge Tunnel opening from Eliot Yard and Harvard to Park Street on the Tremont Street Subway on March 23, 1912.
		The tunnels of the Red Line have a cameo in the 1936 H.

		The easiest solution was to run the cavernous Bluebirds on the line at rush hours, with an official in the cab to insure that the non cab signalled cars were being properly operated and not exceeding their clearances.
		The main yards for Amtrak and the south-side commuter rail are west of the Red Line yards, and just south of the facility the branch to the South Boston waterfront passes below the leads, while a viaduct carries the Old Colony commuter tracks from the west side to the east.

	Red Line riders irate about paying more: MBTA likely to raise fares next January
		The MBTA is likely to raise fares by about 25 percent next January as it grapples with more than $8 billion in debt and attempts to keep revenues in line with expenses.
		Any new fare hike will likely be line with the last raise in January 2004, when the base subway fare rose from $1 to $1.25 and bus fare went from 75 cents to 90 cents.
		The MBTA board will be asked next month to start the fare increase process, with the actual increases to be announced in the spring.

	Green Light For Green Line
		When the streetcar lines were placed underground in 1897, there was no need to construct elevated platforms as that would have required the redesign of the interior of hundreds of streetcars (an enormous expense).
		By the same token, many delays on the Green Line are caused by patrons who rush into the train before people have a chance to exit, or who insist on forcing their way into the train when there is another train with an identical destination directly behind the current one.
		The MBTA is well aware of the low carrying capacity of the Green Line, and has recently finished testing new cars, some of which have entered into revenue service.

		The Red Line is the longest line in the T. It has two branches and a High Speed Line.
		The Red Line was originally supposed to be an elevated line from Harvard to Bowdoin Square in Boston where it would then enter the Tremont St. tunnel near Scollay Square.
		Another early idea was to extend the Red Line from Ashmont to Mattapan and then make a loop by branching off after Broadway along the Fairmont CR line and connect at Mattapan.
