As is so often the case, the summit we could see ahead on the horizon was not Red Pike itself, but its lower outcrop, which I believe is named "The Chair".
The rounded, grassy slopes on this side of Red Pike are a complete contrast to the sheer face we had observed from Pillar a couple of days ago, and we took advantage of this as we made our way up the final ascent, past Scoat Tarn.
From Red Pike's summit, we took the direct route to Scoat Fell, which is very close by, but surrounded by a field of boulders, which we took a while to cross.

They were big pike suckers between 5 and 7 inches.
I actually had the best luck using a big white walleye jig through the suckers mouth, because the big walleye jig was not heavy enough to bring the sucker down it had a lot of movement.
Cookie gave me the idea of two feet of the bottom, on the camera the pike were right on the bottom and fed up so cookie was right on.

Red Pike presents a massive western wall to the valley of Mosedale.
When seen from the vicinity of Over Beck or the lower slopes of Yewbarrow, the summit structure appears as a gently domed grassy pyramid, and it is from this side (or from Pillar as part of the Mosedale Horseshoe) that the mountain is usually climbed.
Even if the rest of the Mosedale Horseshoe isn't included in the day's plan, Red Pike is a fantastic mountain, certainly one of the best of the western Wasdale fells.
