Red Lancashire rose Lancashire is a county in the North of England, bounded to the west by the Irish Sea.
Red Rum (May 3 1965 – October 18 1995) was a racehorse who achieved an unmatched historic treble when he won the Grand National in 1973, 1974 and 1977.
Red Rum won the 1973, 1974 and 1977 Grand Nationals and was runner-up in 1975 and 1976 - an unparalleled record.

Red Rum was bred at Rossenarra Stud in Kells, County Kilkenny, Ireland by Martyn Molony and started off in life running in cheap races as a sprinter.
Red Rum suffered most of his life from a debilitating, incurable bone disease in his foot but it could not defeat his courage.
Fittingly, the inestimable Rummy is buried at the finishing line of the Aintree race course which is still a destination for his fans today.

Red Rum was sold privately to Mrs Lurline Brotherton for 1,200gns, for whom he won three hurdle races and five chases when trained by Bobby Renton and then Anthony Gillam, but he was later resold, this time for 6,000 guineas, through the autumn sales at Doncaster Sales in August, 1972, to Noel Le Mare.
Red Rum's form was nothing like as good in the run-up to the 1976 National and he had failed to finish closer than third in any of his eight previous runs that season.
Red Rum began the 1976-77 season with a win in a poor race at Carlisle, but after a dismal run when last of three in a handicap chase at Newcastle on November 20 there were some vociferous calls for his retirement, as there had been at about the same time the previous year.
