 Red Sonja review at theOneliner.com
Sonja is on a quest to destroy some talisman of unimaginable power to save the world, and gain vengeance against the dread Queen Gedren, and Arnie's just into saving the world on more general terms.
Kalidor brings news of her impending death to Sonja, and the two return for a theoretically emotional deathbed speech as Sonja is implored to destroy the talisman.
Red Sonja feels very much like a cut-rate version of the Conan films, with bits of plot nicked from them and stitched together to create something less than the sum of it's parts.

Geek in the City :: Red Sonja #1
It was through several comics and other media that Red Sonja became at a strong female character capable of defending herself in Howard's harsh land of Hyboria at best, or, at worst, a pale Conan imitation with breasts.
This Red Sonja is a strong-willed warrior, and starts issue #1 when her evening meal, which she shares with her sole companion Thorne (her stallion), is interrupted by a nearby scream and the sound of battle.
While the writers could have chose to ignore this, in a bit of dialogue between Red Sonja and the Gathian messenger, she explains how she finds wearing such an outfit beneficial (the reason is incredible similar to Power Girl's justification for how her costume is particularly cut around her chest in JSA Classified #1).
