After two years, Red Star left the Titans with Pantha and Baby Wildebeest, forming a unique and somewhat dysfunctional family unit (New Titans #114, 1994).
In the cartoon show, Red Star's powers were the results of scientific experiments performed by the Soviet government and Professor Chang, in the hopes of producing a new super-soldier (similar to Marvel's Captain America).
Unfortunately, Red Star lost control of his powers and the energy within him burst out and exploded, causing mass destruction.

The comic debuted at Image Comics in 2000 and remained there until the Spring of 2002 when it made the move to CrossGen.
Despite the changes in publisher, the future still looked bright for "The Red Star" when in June of 2003 a video game based on the series was announced, to be published by Acclaim.
Gossett says he and his team have learned a lot about publishing comics over the past six years, which is one of the reasons why they're releasing the next chapter of "The Red Star" as an original graphic novel (the other being Gossett prefers the long-form format for telling these epic tales).

The six years of research into Russian history that Gossett did to prepare for this project also shines through, in that the URRS feels like a real place; the depth of the backstory and setting is one reason I tend to think of The Red Star as the Babylon 5 of comics.

Don't sweat it if you've never read the comics or if you hate commies, the story -- at least from the one-level demo I played -- seems somewhat minimal and the beat-em-up side-scrolling gameplay is the type that any gamer can understand.
My biggest problem with The Red Star, and unfortunately something that would be pretty difficult to change before the game's fall release, is that unlike most comic-to-game translations, this one doesn't do a great job of translating the visual style of the comic onto the screen.
