Eating red meat or processed meat, such as sausage and hot dogs, is associated with an increased risk of colorectal tumor in humans, according to an epidemiological study published in the September 1 issue of the journal Cancer Research.
The researchers found that those who were in the quintile consuming the highest amount of red meat were 26 percent more likely to develop adenoma in the descending and sigmoid colon, but not rectal adenoma compared with those who were in the quintile consuming the least amount of red meat.
Well-done red meat was associated with a 21 percent increase in the risk of colorectal adenoma.
