Long-haired Spider Monkey - Ateles belzebuth
The Oxford Encyclopedia of Mammals follows Eisenberg and Redford in granting them full species status and giving English names of Black-faced Black Spider Monkey to A.
Spider monkeys are active during the day and are found in various group sizes from singly to about 40 depending on the scarcity or otherwise of the fruits on which it feeds.
Following Emmons, both these photos taken in the state of Mato Grosso are of what she calls White-bellied Spider Monkey Ateles belzebuth, the first photo, taken at Vila Bela de Santíssima Trindade, being of A.

The monkey collection includes white-faced saki monkeys, black howler monkeys and a long-established group of black spider monkeys which has produced nearly 20 youngsters since 1975.
The collection still consisted mostly of birds – largely from South America – but also featured dingo and mongoose, rhesus macaques and Armenian monkeys (whatever they are), red and fallow deer, and an armadillo.
Dornbrack was interested in monkeys, so the Banham collection expanded in that direction, and although the German soon sold back his lease and relegated himself to the position of zoo manager, the collection grew and grew.

 Apes & Monkeys
Spider monkeys, who are found in southern Mexico, through Colombia, Venezuela, and the Amazon Basin, are swinging superstars able to travel in jungle treetops using sure-grip fingers and toes, long arms and legs, and a grabby tail.
Spider monkey tails are prehensile, a fancy word for grasping that rhymes with "utensil." Tails come in handy to keep monkeys from falling out of trees when they're asleep.
Sakis come with a few variations: there are very hairy ones, and some with beards and red noses.

A Yogadventure near Carate, Costa Rica
Reminiscent of Snow White (of Seven Dwarfs fame), she magically attracts her animal friends with calls nearly identical to theirs: macaws, white-nosed coati, agoutes, the infamous sloth and three varieties of monkey: howler, white-faced and spider.
Nowadays their huge bright red bodies, blue and yellow wings, long red tails and white faces are seen only on the Osa Peninsula.
A big butterfly lands on my hair; Nadine tells me this is an owl butterfly and must be a sign of good fortune, as they rarely get so close to humans.
