Redcliffe is both the name of a peninsula on the north-west of Moreton Bay in South East Queensland, Australia and the city located on the peninsula.
Redcliffe is linked to its much larger southern neighbour, Brisbane by a long viaduct, the Houghton Highway, which stretches across Bramble Bay to the Brisbane suburb of Brighton.
The suburbs of the City of Redcliffe are: Clontarf, Queensland - Woody Point, Queensland - Kippa-Ring, Queensland - Margate, Queensland - Scarborough, Queensland - and Rothwell, Queensland on the isthmus connecting the peninsula to the mainland.

Redcliffe, situated on the edge of Moreton Bay, was considered to be the best location for a new northern penal settlement.
Redcliffe underwent a significant land boom in the 1880s and was quickly gaining a reputation as a seaside resort - offering a seaside experience similar to many of the holiday destinations in England.

Redcliffe wasonce a small seaside retreat 40 km north of Brisbane.
A few buildings were left standing at Redcliffe and it is claimed that the local Aborigines, with a rather nice sense of irony, called the houses 'oompie bong' meaning 'dead house'.
Redcliffe remained an isolated retreat until 1935 when one of the engineering marvels of Queensland, the Hornibrook Highway, was built.

Within a year of setting up the colony in 1824, the convicts and their guards were forced to relocate to the banks of the Brisbane River by marauding mosquitoes and Aborigines.
Redcliffe is also the departure point for the vehicular ferry to Moreton Island, which claims the highest sand dunes in the world.

Ms Johnston said Redcliffe was up against some stiff competition from the Tidiest Town finalists from the other seven judging regions but the city came out on top because it best epitomised the elements of a Tidy Town.
