  Redgrave and Lopham Fen National Nature Reserve
Redgrave and Lopham Fen NNR is an extensive area (125 Ha) of spring-fed valley fen in the headwaters of the River Waveney on the Suffolk/Norfolk border.
It is the largest fen in lowland England.
From the B1113, the reserve is situated between Redgrave and South Lopham, and from the A1066 between South Lopham and Bressingham.

Prior to the 1960's this 300-acre valley fen, the largest in the country, had a complex hydrology which was characterised by groundwater discharge all through the year.

The Trust’s restoration project has included the reinstatement of traditional management, grazing with a herd of resilient Polish tarpan ponies, cattle and sheep, peat scraping to expose fresh wet peat and the re-siting of a public water abstraction borehole.

It is owned by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, and was successfully used to clear scrub at Redgrave and Lopham Fen NNR.
A trial at Wicken Fen in 1998 demonstrated that the machine could clear, remove stumps and tidy up in 3 days an area which would have taken volunteers and staff 150 people-days working manually.
The Fen is not as wet as it once was as a result of the drainage of the agricultural land surrounding the reserve.

Traditionally, the fen was mown by local villagers, with the harvested sedge and reed used for the thatching industry.
