#redhat FAQ   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Some users idle in #redhat during certain times of the day because they often connect to irc from work, where their attention is not always focused in the channel.
#redhat is full of well known project developers and established hackers.
When someone comes into #redhat and has troubles, often users give that person specific commands to run, to help diagnose the problem.

OfB.biz: Open for Business - RedHat to KDE: ''Do as I say, not as I do.''
RedHat asked politely that it's logo not be used as KDE's background, most likely, so as not to confuse the people into thinking KDE was representing RedHat.
RedHat didn't try to close down the booth or remove the logo while KDErs were away from their booth.
It seems to me that RedHat's only mistake, aside from spamming exhibitors, was having a marketing guy who was unaware of the bad feelings that the KDE community has toward RedHat, and who didn't know that they would blow this out of proportion into some big attempt to strongarm KDE into running RedHat.

The RedHat 7 Customised Installer (unofficial) mini-HOWTO   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Any redhat 6.x box built from the original release installation disks is a total security hazard on a network unless it has been updated and properly configured.
Here is a copy of the updated redhat 7.2 comps file that I have been using successfully for a while now (as of May 2002).
To prove the point, here is a diff between the 7.2 and 7.3 as-released versions of splitdistro, and even more revealing is a diff between the modified 7.2 and 7.3 versions of splitdistro which strongly identifies the "real" differences between the two distribution versions.

This is a set of RPM's for RedHat 8 that includes the mpeg audio input plugin.
Redhat 8 shipped without support for mpeg audio due to concerns about patents.
In able to easily be able to add mpeg decoding to a RedHat install, these RPM's are built with the RedHat spec file.

Red Hat Executives: To Jon Schwartz   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
I think PR and advertising people at Redhat should be more careful not to “burn” the original idea of open source movement for a quarter marketing campaign.
If Redhat was meaningless, and IBM was realy pulling another DOS-style blunder, and if Linux/x86-64 was no match for Solaris/Sparc then nobody would be talking about this stuff at all.
Redhat has done a lot for open source and all of RH fedora (which acts as the code base for RHEL) is available for free (both binaries and source).

Redhat IRLP Repository   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
RedHat no longer support thier 6.2, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.0 or 9 distributions.
This was established due to the continual changes in the Stratum 2 NTP network often leaving nodes with no time sync source.
This RedHat mirror server and Reflector 9500 operate as NTP peers, giving the IRLP network a redundant time source.

 Setting up Linux on Sony PCG-505 (505, 505G, 505GX, 505F, 505FX, 505TS, 505TX)
While the Sony documentation specifies that the drive is ATAPI compatible, the default configuration of RedHat Linux 5.2 does not allow the system to properly detect (and use) the drive.

 Downloading the cdrom images
Each of the three iso images is a replica of the corresponding RedHat 8.0, 9 or Fedora Core 1 install cdrom with an apt database of the packages it contains.
Some Planet CCRMA packages may need original RedHat or Fedora Core packages that are not installed and apt-get or synaptic will not be able to find them.
They are specially useful if you have not done (or are not planning to do) a complete install of all the distribution packages as all the packages that are part of the original distribution can be locally incorporated into the apt database.

RedHat Linux KickStart HOWTO   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Eagle eyed RedHat users will probably have realised by now that these are essentially the main steps involved in the manual installation of a RedHat Linux system.
However - the RedHat boot floppy is pretty full, and you may find that you have to delete some of the other files to make room for the KickStart config file.
If time is important, you'll probably prefer to use the loopback devices, since you can hack around with the disk images without incurring the latency associated with a genuine floppy disk read/write.
