In the case of the Redpath, the director was J.W. Dawson, principal of McGill University.
We are told, for example, that the ''Redpath Museum, unlike South American institutions, acquired local materials in a haphazard fashion,' depending heavily on donations from the community.' In conclusion, we are told that colonial museums grew to be important institutions in their own right, both in an international and in a domestic context.

Redpath Sugar Museum was established in 1979 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of our Canadian sugar refining operation.
The museum includes displays on a range of topics covering the social and economic history of sugar production and refining, a history of the company from its beginnings as Canada Sugar Refinery (CSR) in 1854 to the modern day, and a history of the founding Redpath family.
Bookings for the Museum are often made by teachers up to eight months in advance, in order to ensure that the required dates, which coincide with the teaching of the relevant parts of the curriculum, are available.

The Redpath Museum is a museum of natural history belonging to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The museum's important collection of fossils owes much of its beginning to Sir William Dawson who provided not only many of the fossils of plants from his native Nova Scotia, but procured many important specimens from around the world.
Thomas Clark, for many years up until his death, was a fixture at the museum and was renowned for his pioneering work on fossils from the Burgess Shale, some of the oldest known anywhere.

The museum itself was opened in 1882, two years after Redpath commissioned the project, and was immediately housed with the impressive collections of Sir William Dawson, a noted Canadian natural scientist.
Until 1952 the museum was used almost strictly as a McGill University research facility, meaning that it was difficult for the public to view the collections.

The Redpath Library was bestowed upon McGill in 1893 due to the beneficence of Peter Redpath, owner of Redpath Sugar and one of Montreal's leading citizens at that time, and his wife Grace Wood.
Redpath Library was one of six edifices commissioned from Taylor for the McGill campus.
In constructing the 1952 expansion to Redpath, the east wall of the Nobbs and Hyde 1921 projection was entirely enclosed and the use of Taylor's reading room as part of the library came to an end.

Peter Redpath was born in Montreal in 1821, the son of a Scottish immigrant who had established himself in business in the city.
One of the major facets of this collection are the so-called Redpath Tracts comprised of approximately 25,000 pamphlets and tracts illustrating the religious, political, scientific, and social history of the British Isles between 1561 and 1900.
After the library vacated the Reading Room, it was renamed Redpath Hall and is now used as a ceremonial hall for the University and a venue for musical events, with a silent cohort of past benefactors, chancellors and principals in oils looking on from its walls.

The Redpath Museum, thought to be the first building in Canada erected for a museological purpose, was donated to McGill in 1882 by Peter Redpath, the president of Redpath Sugar, who also bestowed the Redpath Library upon the University.
The three-storey, Montreal limestone Museum was designed by the firm of Hutchison and Steele in the Classical Revival style and is located on a prominent site on the west side of lower campus.

The main idea that the author is trying to get across is that the Redpath Museum artifact displays were not regulated primarily on the scientific discoveries of history but rather who had the major influence and power of the museum.
