The district's five school buildings are now working on recovery of 96 percent of their waste generation for recycling and composting.
Reeds Spring students are not the only tree-growers who will use this compost.
If other schools start recycling and are lucky enough to have the response we did, this world could be a much cleaner, better place, and even sooner than we thought.

 Missouri School Operates An In-Vessel Composter
In the Reeds Spring School District, 74 percent of the waste stream are food and paper — much of it from cafeteria tray food residuals, nonrecyclable paper and food wrapping.
Students at all of the schools, from elementary to high school, sort tray waste at the end of the cafeteria periods.
At the high school, members of The “R” Project Public Relations Team, made up of a dedicated group of students, also present educational programs to their peers and to the community on composting in hopes of increasing awareness and compliance.

This is an integrated waste management program that began in 2000 that includes a no-discharge in vessel organic composting system for cafeteria food waste, paper, grass leaves, woodchips and other organic materials generated at schools within the Reeds Springs School District, which is located in Stone County, Missouri on Table Rock Lake.
They have presented in their local community, adjoining counties and in November 2000 to the Missouri School Board Association's annual meeting.
The Reeds Spring RIV School District currently spends $22,000 annually on waste disposal fees.
