Reedsport was incorporated in 1919 near the confluence of three rivers.
Reedsport has agressively pursued a Riverfront Revitalization Project with an interesting visitors attraction at the Umpqua Discovery Center that was completed in 1999; with the "Tidewaters and Time" exhibit and expanded in 2006 to include a "Pathways to Discovery" wing.
Reedsport is located on the central Oregon coast at the intersection of Oregon Highway 38 and U.S. Highway 101, eighty-seven miles from Eugene, twenty-five miles North of Coos Bay, twenty-one miles South of Florence and seventy miles West of Roseburg.
