The District was created in 1967 when the Florida Legislature passed an act sponsored by delegations from Orange and Osceola counties which created the Reedy Creek Improvement District, combining within one multi-purpose district many of the various powers then found in limited purpose taxing districts in Florida.
In the case of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the major portion of taxes are paid to the District by Walt Disney World Co. and other property owners, who also pay property taxes to Orange and Osceola Counties.
The Reedy Creek Improvement District has funded the costs for traffic controls and roadway costs at the points of access to the District along state and county roads as part of its infrastructure management system.

 JEA News - JEA Partners with other Utilities to Build North Florida Power Project
JEA, working in partnership with the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), a wholesale electric supplier based in Orlando, and the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which serves parts of Orange and Osceola counties near Orlando, is seeking a 2,500-acre site in north Florida for the project.
The North Florida Power Project is expected to create up to 1,500 construction jobs and about 150 full-time jobs when it goes into operation in 2012.
Florida (excluding the panhandle area) had a 45,578-megawatt generating capacity in 2004 - and construction is planned for more than 13,000 additional megawatts through 2012 to meet the state's projected energy demand, according to the Florida Reliability Coordinating Council.

 Prefabricated Bridges 2004 - Good Business - Best Practice
Located at the entrance to Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, the Reedy Creek Bridge was bid as a conventional contract, and then the winning contractor and engineer reworked the initial design using prefabricated components on the same alignment.
Bridge requirements included that it be a low-profile structure approved by the Florida Department of Transportation, that it be constructed entirely from the top with no impact to the creek bed below, and that it be a low-maintenance structure with utility lines carried in the 14 ft. that separated the eastbound and westbound bridges.
Crews drove steel piles from barges, drove a large wheeled crane onto the barges, and then used the crane to install first caps and then decked doubletee girders, posttensioning the diaphragms.
