Zebra morays are found primarily in rocky and coral reefs on the east coast of Africa to the Red Sea.
Reef structures must be large and strong to withstand the body movements and contortions these eels exhibit when feeding.
Most reef fishes are safe with a zebra moray as long as the eel is regularly fed. These eels are too large and "clumsy" to be kept with most sessile invertebrates and they definitely should not be kept in small reef systems.

My tank is a 75 gallon reef after starting with a 29 gallon as my starter reef.
The 75 gallon reef tank is a standard 75 gallon size with a built in overflow to a 40 gallon custom designed sump/refugium.
The tank is dedicated to primarily SPS corals as well as light demanding clams.

 Duke's Reef Tank
Probably the most easily recognizable change to the tank is the explosion of coralline (pink!) aglae we've had over the past several months.
The fish plan for the tank is to have 3-5 clownfish, a school of 3 blue/green chromises, a royal gramma, a neon goby, a blue tang, a queen angel, and a handful of hermit crabs, cleaner shrimp and snails.
The tank is roughly 48"x18"x30" and when filled with all the water, fish, sand, rocks & coral it'll weigh in at almost 1500lbs.

We have a 55 gallon reef tank that is a hobby of ours (just recently we have moved and now we have a micro reef - we'll post info and pictures soon).
The second type of saltwater tank is the fish and hearty invertebrate tank.
This type of tank could include a few hearty invertebrates like mushrooms, button polyps, etc. Many fish will not eat these corals but a fish and invertebrate tank is sometimes risky - you may have to remove some fish or corals if the corals are nipped by aggressive and curious fish.

The reef is in the dining room on the second floor and all of the equipment is located in my basement fish room.
The water is then pumped out of the vat via a "Reef Filler" pump running continuously to maintain a consistent water level in the sump.

I know the tank is small but I want something that wont be too expensive for them after I get it setup.
in a tank with smaller water proportions, water conditions can quickly foul up, and throw the entire tank in to a bad situation, and could even wipe out the whole tank.
My dad has always wanted a reef tank and I he needs a hobby right now so I am sure he will make sure the tank is well taken care of.

More on the right side of the tank are red mushrooms, further down right is a false brain coral with multiple polyps, and far lower right corner is an anenome.
The 14 month old tank displays the ever multiplying Xenias and mising is the elegant coral which was removed on the 9/98, unknown for expiration, but my LFS does have a 73 degree tank with the same coral.

Live rock is rock imported from a reef, packed in oxygenated water, with all the bacteria, worms and small creatures kept alive.
The most recent and exciting addition to the tank, Feb. 1st 1998, is a banded coral shark.
I have always wanted a tank with a shark and an octopus, but since they tend to eat every other fish in the tank, I have not got one yet.

For as long as I have been in the hobby, and that is quite a few years as most of you know, lighting has been a hotly debated topic, both in the saltwater and freshwater side of the hobby.
What is imporartant though is that, if an animal that requires a lot of light is placed at the bottom of a deep tank, the power emitted by the light source used, will need to be far greater than in a shallow tank or the desired energy levels will not be achieved.
I would suggest and it is only a suggestion that more is needed as we use less K degree bulbs as the energies that are developed by lower K degree bulbs may not provide enough quanta for the animals.
