Reel was not only a great racemare in her time, but was one of the most important American broodmares of the 1800s.
In her first season, Reel was bred to *Leviathan (standing at George Elliott's Wall Spring Stud in Tennessee) and produced the chestnut colt Lincoln, in 1844.
Reel is also remarkable for being the dam of Prioress, a bay filly foaled in 1853 by *Sovereign.

The disadvantages to fishing reels are that they are usually more expensive, they aren't made to mount onto a speargun, they aren't made to be tossed onto rock or have sand ground into them, etc. In short, you're almost always better off with a reel designed for a speargun.
Reels mount either vertically or horizontally, there being little functional difference between the two; to reel in a horizontally-mounted reel, simply turn the gun 90 degrees.

 Reel Horse Pedigree
On March 29, 1843, Reel made the final start of her career at the Louisiana Course, not far from where Fair Grounds is situated.
Reel was produced from the Caton mare Gallopade and as such is a member of the famous "Dancing family" of the American Stud Book from which many outstanding Thoroughbreds descend, such as Domino and Affirmed.
Reel herself produced 13 foals, all of whom were raised in Louisiana, among which are Lecomte, who once defeated Lexington; Prioress, one of the first American-breds to win major stakes abroad; Starke, War Dance, and Fanny Wells.
