Rees then proposed three ways to react to the seeming coincidences that have shaped the universe.
The ability of the universe to support life could be a matter of coincidence, an example of providence or it could be the result of the universe being somehow selected from among an ensemble of unfit universes, he said.

Davies' fundamental purpose here is to put an end to many of the misconceptions about the Anglicization of Britain and Ireland.
From here Davies moves on to shatter the idea of a concerted and organized Anglo-Norman endeavor to conquer and dominate the Isles, and the myth of organized resistances in Wales and Ireland.
Davies is a good writer as well as one of the most prominent medieval historians in the U.K., and this book should prove accessible for the lay reader interested in what the author has called the "first English empire".

Opening bowler Davies unveiled their secret “they leave the short stuff alone & hit the length ball.” Attacking fields outstayed their usefulness, Rees bowled the odd bad ball — always punished, Davies bowled too long as indicated by Roberts’ 1st ball wicket, & Jon Webley had a day to forget.
Davies was unlucky seeing Randall dropped twice but Captain Roberts did eventually ring changes with Fulmer still requiring 18 runs & immediately picked up Fisher at slip.

As was of course only to be expected, I found in his farewell letter of October 1996 an analysis of the issues then facing the Society that was acute and solutions to them which are still valid.
Nevertheless, it still seems to be the case that too many historians of science, historians with interests in the ancient world, the history of Asia, Africa or the Americas and even those who study modern European history or the social and economic history of Britain still believe that the Society is not for them.
As Rees Davies wrote in 1996, 'if historians cease to speak to each other across continents, countries, centuries and subject-matter, the subject itself will be impoverished'.

Dr Redig's work on raptors in the US with the virus has shown a possible correlation with Hippoboscid (Flat-fly; Louse-fly) population numbers, and it has been suggested that these insects rather than mosquitoes are responsible for transmission.
