Reference (computer science) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computer science, a reference is a small object containing information which refers to data elsewhere, as opposed to containing the data itself.
References have the same benefit: you can manipulate references to data without actually having to modify the data itself, which in some cases can be much more efficient.
These references have types like C pointers indicating how to interpret the data they reference, but they are typesafe in that they cannot be interpreted as a raw address and unsafe conversions are not permitted.

 Computer Science
Computer science is faced with scientific challenges that rival any in history, yet are relevant to practical problems of today.
A computer science degree now tends to be seen more like a liberal-arts major, as a solid grounding for all kinds of future endeavors rather than as a warm-up round of job training that precedes going to work in the computer industry.
'Computer science is a field that came out of the problems we solved and the ones we are still trying to solve,' she said.

Category:Computer science - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In its most general sense, computer science (CS or compsci) is the study of computation and information processing, both in hardware and in software.
In practice, computer science includes a variety of topics relating to computers, which range from the abstract analysis of algorithms, formal grammars, etc. to more concrete subjects like programming languages, software, and computer hardware.
As a scientific discipline, it is distinct from mathematics, programming, software engineering, informatics, and computer engineering, although there are significant overlaps and no clear demarcation.

While there are many similarities between a brain and an electronic computer, there are also several factors which make the human ‘computer’ unique: First of all, it is rather large.
The electronic chips which are contained in the computers of the 1990s are constructed from flat little squares of silicon, no bigger than postage stamps.
Compare this to today’s computer chip with its total of about ten million transistors, and you can understand why, at present, we have about sufficient technology to simulate the brain of a slug.
