One of Star Trek's claims to fame in the United States is that it featured the first televised kiss between a white character and a fl character.
Even the popular Star Wars films had all but admitted the gay subtext to C-3PO robot and the bar in the 1977 Stars Wars film has often been read as being a gay bar based on how gay bars were depicted in Hollywood films in the 1960s and early 1970s.
Due to its popularity, some of the concepts and the language of Star Trek have found their way into the culture of the population at large and can be considered to be pop culture.

The references range from overt parody to use of recognized elements such as the vulcan salute or Klingons to more subtle references like use of sound effects or dialogue from the shows.
This is probably a reference to the episode The Return of the Archons or I, Mudd, where Kirk destroys a computer and a robot respectively by asking them trick questions.
The theme party coincided with the 30th anniversary of Star Trek's first airing, so one can assume that the producers decided to have this storyline as a nod to the milestone, although no actual mention of the anniversary was made on the show.
