In the Simpsons the writers either don't use stereotypes or they exaggerate stereotypes to create a comical situation and drive a point home (although the later is true for most of the show).
For example, in one show he fought a wolf who was trying to attack Bart (the boy in the Simpsons, which is an anagram for ''brat''), and after defeating the wolf sitting in the school yard and drinking a beer with the defeated beast to reminiscing about the 'good old days'.
The assumption was made that on average the Simpsons are viewed to the age approximately 26 yeas.

Intertextual references are as important as the text itself and are an integral part of the text.
The Simpsons in itself is a violent cartoon, and so when Marge takes on cartoon violence in Itchy and Scratchy, she is actually taking on the existence of The Simpsons.
Round the clock helicopter surveillance of the Simpson Estate is surprisingly similar to the coverage of the O. The Professor often makes passing references to the fact that many of his past crews have been brutally killed (Leela, as the new captain, is obliged to sign waivers making sure Planet Express will not be held accountable if she should die of "sonic diarrhea", among other things).
This caused the "Star Trek Wars" (not to be confused with the "Star Wars Trek", the mass migration of Star Wars fans).

Way back in its adolescence -- when "The Simpsons" was television's bad boy, a kid with a smart mouth and a penchant for pulling pranks -- journalist Mark Pinsky never anticipated the program would have something meaningful to say about America and religion.
And Pinsky, religion reporter for the Orlando, Fla., Sentinel, is still lecturing on "The Simpsons" and the way the show ultimately respects faith and spirituality at the same time it pokes fun at it.
"The Simpsons," after all, is out to satirize the culture, and everything from TV to education to American values to religion feels the heat.

Quoting the Simpsons | Ask MetaFilter   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-06)
Simpsons quotes seem to have thoroughly saturated everyday speech, at least of a certain age group.
I think the Simpsons is a special case, in that so many of the references are useful ellipses for cultural phenomena: the comic book store guy sums up geek sarcasm, "I for one welcome out X overlords" sums up media toadies, etc. "Not that there's anything wrong with that" is the same.
I think because The Simpsons focuses so much on cultural quirks and on pointing out societal ideosyncracies and has had such strong writing that it has left us with a cultural shorthand, there are Simpons quotes that explain things that happen to each of us everyday as we go about our lives.

In the early days of The Simpsons, they derived a large part of their popularity from the everyday, down-to-earth, unglamorous, average-blue-collar-slob aspect of the Simpson family.
The sequence then introduces Lisa and Homer, where the family is on their way to their house at 742 Evergreen Terrace (the address varied in the beginning, but the writers now use 742 Evergreen Terrace exclusively).
The first season opening sequence featured a number of differences from the later seasons, including a shot of Lisa riding her bike on the way home and Bart's way home consisting of snatching a bus stop sign, forcing several dazed Springfieldians to chase the bus, rather than just riding past a number of well-known characters.
