This concept has been criticized as circular, since it appears to argue that response strength is increased by reinforcement while defining reinforcement as something which increases response strength.
If given a ritual to perform by someone you have empowered such as a priest, parent, military leader or interrogator and they and / or you repeat it over and over as instructed, it will become a reflex action.
Acts such as the passing of a church and making the sign of the cross or the counting of beads while repeating a prayer over and over are but a few examples.
