What 'absenteeism' or 'refusal of work' and 'sabotage' have in common -the fact that people take their own lives into their own hands - is absolutely not strictly limited to the factory, to offices, to enterprises, in one word, to the workplace.
A 'refusal of modernisation' (which implies a break with many things in the field of relations in the factory) is quite simply followed by a 'refusal to work': one takes the money and goes away.
The 'refusal of work', the movement of capital and the movement of the class struggle The 'refusal of work' has been the slogan of the bourgeois class and its flunkies since the beginning.

 5. The Refusal of Work | libcom.org   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The refusal of work - which, as I argued, is central to Marx's proletarian unnamable — should not, then, be understood simply as a set of practices, but as a mechanism for the refusal of any plenitude or subject in work, and a continuous engagement against work and its identities.
Nevertheless, given the lack of familiarity with the critique of work in modern political culture, before considering the development of this politics in operaismo and autonomia it is useful to present a brief overview of the place of the critique of work in radical milieux.
As I have argued, the refusal of work is a cramping mechanism for the refusal of workers' plenitude and a compulsion to political activity immanent to capitalist configurations, not a simple 'Luddism', or a refusal of 'command' (as something exterior to work itself).

In determining whether or not any work is suitable, the state agency is apt to consider the degree of risk involved to his health, safety and morals, his physical fitness and prior training, his experience and prior earnings, his length of unemployment, and the distance of the work from his residence.
For a worker seeking work in a new locality, the former wage rate may not be a relevant consideration in determining a suitable wage at all.
For instance, if the worker is unwilling to accept work fifty miles away because that would make her unavailable in case of emergencies, but is available for work in her local job market, then she may not be unduly restricting her work availability.
