Kinoeye | Interview: Horror actor Reggie Nalder
As fate would have it, Reggie Nalder walked right past me dressed in a pale blue leather jumpsuit, a brown leather handbag over his shoulder.
In August of 1991, I returned from San Francisco to find a message from him on my answering machine saying "Auf Wiedersehen." I thought little of it at the time but later I was shocked to discover my mysterious and enigmatic friend had succumbed to bone cancer on 19 November 1991.
Reggie Nalder was a character actor whose aura of mystery and demonic physiognomy placed him in the forefront of Euro-horror personalities.

 Reggie Nalder - SCIFIPEDIA
Reggie Nalder (Alfred Reginald Natzick) (September 4, 1907 – November 19, 1991) was an Austrian-born character actor with distinctive burn scars on his lower face.
He entered films in 1949 and was cast by Hitchcock as the cold-blooded assassin in the remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1955).
Nalder was an evil henchman in Mark of the Devil (1970), The Dead Don’t Die (1975), Dracula’s Dog (1977), McCloud: McCloud Meets Dracula (1977) and the Disney comedy The Devil and Max Devlin (1981).

It is IMO one of Dario's best written movies and yes even though i know to love Argento you must just go for the ride i still find this bit quite puzzling.

MARK OF THE DEVIL   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Anyone who crosses him is conveniently denounced for worshipping Satan; women he lusts after are branded as witches and imprisoned just so he and his pals can rape and torture them at will.
The famous tongue-pulling scene will definitely have you wincing.) Lom is quite effective as the evil Lord Cumberland (don't say the word "impotent" around him!) and Nalder supremely creepy, but most of the dubbing is poor and the goofy performance of Johannes Buzalski as the town Advocate undercuts a number of scenes.
The first half-hour of the film is burdened by a sappy, ridiculously inappropriate music score that fortunately switches gears (for the most part) with Lom's arrival.

In need of a human servant as well, Dracula also put Zoltan's owner, a farmer named Veidt Schmidt (Mark Of The Devil's Reggie Nalder), under his control.
I couldn't begin to count the number of shots in the film focused solely on Nalder's less than handsome face as he mugs villainously for the camera.
The Austrian-born Nalder (1911-1991), who apparently suffered terrible burns sometime in his life (a World War II wound, perhaps?), is damned creepy looking, but his sinister appearance isn't something you can build a film around.

MARK OF THE DEVIL - DVD
Local inquisitor/illiterate lech Albino (Reggie Nalder) has been flmailing the women for their sexual favours, sending those who resist to be tortured and burned--a situation that chills the naïve but virtuous Christian.
He naturally appeals to the authority of his mentor, Count Cumberland (Herbert Lom), a man he identifies with fairness and mercy--but that's before he falls for the comely Vanessa (Olivera Vuco).

A handsome young Udo Kier takes a rare romantic lead as a young baron who rescues an innocent peasant girl from the clutches of a local witch hunter (the villainous-looking Reggie Nalder), only to run afoul of Lom's unholy warrior.
An early entry in the "sex and sadism" genre, this production is an exploitation film with an intelligence behind it, but an exploitation film nonetheless: director Michael Armstrong revels in the most barbarous tortures as the impotent inquisitor punishes innocent young maidens for his own unclean desires.
Strong performances from Lom, Kier, and Nalder and a cynical ending deliver a dramatic punch along with the grisly nastiness.

Review: Mark of the Devil (1970) by Michael Armstrong - Crazy Ralph Films - Horror Movies for the Insane
Aside from the novelty of seeing Reggie Nalder without his vampire make-up and Udo Kier as a young man, this movie offers up little of interest to the viewer.
The torture scenes are almost painfully tame compared the films of the later seventies/early eighties, the pacing is slow and the gore just isn’t there.
Reggie Nalder was also Count Barlow in the original Salem’s Lot mini-series.

The rapists happen to be the local witch-hunters, led by Albino (Reggie Nalder), who spearheads a number of atrocities before the innocent witch-hunter-in-training Baron Christian (Udo Kier) stumbles upon him mid-rape/murder of a servant girl, Vanessa.
Christian's compassion for Vanessa enrages his mentor Count Cumberland, disillusioning poor Christian, who begins to see that the witch hunts are merely an excuse to steal the people's land and rape beautiful, buxom women.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: Mark of the Devil
True, he may believe in their brutal cause so antithetical to the scripture they hold sacred, but this is a delusional product of indoctrination.
Christian is still young enough to have the capacity to discern good from evil; he knows the village's former witch-finder Albino (Reggie Nalder) to be an amoral and sadistic letch abusing his power as a means of sexual gratification, and he has him flogged for needlessly torturing an insanely voluptuous serving-wench named Vanessa (Olivera Vuco).
The problem is, Christian is also madly in love with Vanessa; thus, when Albino finally succeeds at ginning up charges that will surely have her stretched on the rack, his own sin of lust might be revealed at the very time he is awakening to the venal practices of his trusted mentor, Cumberland.

Bird With the Crystal Plumage DVD review on AudioRevolution.com
The bird is played by a briefly-seen African Crowned Crane.) Argento adopts Hitchcock's prowling shots, some of the means of developing suspense, and the idea of the hero being wrongly suspected of the murder.
He even uses Reggie Nalder as a pistol-carrying assassin, the same kind of character he played in Hitchcock's second 'The Man Who Knew Too Much.'
The story, however, is quite unlike anything Hitchcock did -- except for 'Frenzy,' made after 'Bird with the Crystal Plumage,' so perhaps for once the influences went the other way.

 ToxicUniverse.com - Tobe Hooper - 1979 - Salem's Lot Movies Review
It’s difficult to watch this two hour whittling down of the Salem’s Lot television miniseries, perhaps because the sloppy editing interferes with the unfolding of gradual plot threads.
Nonetheless, it also gets you to the “good stuff” faster, which are the glimpses at the mute, ghost white Nosferatu vampire, Barlow (Reggie Nalder), who looks appropriately menacing with his long talons and grim fangs.
Stephen King was a little ticked that his sexy and well spoken count from the novel was transformed into this grisly ghoul, but Tobe Hooper has always been better at coming up with visual representations of evil than presenting strong dialogue or drama.
