Regia Marina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Regia Marina attacked with insidious weapons: MAS 21 and MAS 15 sank the Hungarian battleship SMS Szent István in the Adriatic sea on 10 June 1918; an early type of human torpedo (Mignatta) entered the harbour of Pola and sank the Austro-Hungarian flagship Viribus Unitis on 1 November 1918.
When Italy entered World War II on 10 June 1940 Regia Marina was the fourth largest navy in the world and had a mix of modernised and new battleships.
In 1943, Benito Mussolini was deposed and the Italians agreed an armistice with the Allies.

With the Regia Aeronautica lacking maritime combat experience and the Regia Marina without suitable night fighting capabilities or aircraft carriers¹, the support is extremely beneficial.
The Regia Marina will remain in harbor until August, 1941 and for the remainder of the war they will not directly confront the allies in force.

As is true with other models from Regia Marina, except for the smallest guns, AA guns have a resin mount and photo-etched barrels and gun apparatus.

Comando Supremo: Explosive Motor Boats (EMB's)
Many "Armchair Admirals" have considered the Regia Marina as unwilling to fight, but there were many factors why major Italian warships kept confrontation with enemy warships to a minimum.
The Regia Marina's strategy of confrontation was developed from knowing their shortcomings.
They relied heavily on their submarines, torpedo boats and EMB's as the assault force of the Regia Marina and saved the larger warships for convoy escorts to and from North Africa.

 Regio Esercito
Military vehicles used Military Service plates until 1927, then, as all normal civil plates, their plates totally changed: they remained white, with red letters and a fl serial number, but new codes were introduced for the different corps.
Motorcycles had also a front plate in addition to the normal rear plate: it was placed over the front mudguard and for this reason had a round shape, and had the prints on both sides, as you can see in the picture number 11, though its quality is very poor.
Anyway Regio Esercito was not the only that had front plates for motorcycles: the same happened also for the motorbikes of the Regia Marina, of the Milizia della Strada and of the Decima MAS.

Guglielmo Evangelista wrote me that he found out that the vehicles that were requisitioned by Regia Marina during the Second War due to the increased needs had a plate with RM followed by a serial number starting from 1, but he hasn't got any clear picture yet.
The last two pictures show two plates for motorcycle of Regia Marina: they had a front plate mounted on the mudguard exactly like the Regio Esercito.

It was thus no less surprising that the aircraft was rejected by the Regia Aeronautica, on the basis that the internal wing fuel tanks were too vulnerable and were not of the self-sealing type.
Turning to the operational service of the RE 2000 with the Regia Aeronautica, it is worth remembering that only in 1941 it was decided to organize a unit to test operationally the plane.
As a further proof of its capabilities, the Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy), having the need of replacing the old Ro 43 biplane as a ship-board catapult fighter, and after examining several options, selected the RE 2000, which was developed in a special version to be launched by catapult.

Though slowed by the material and manpower demands of the war, the Aquila was ready for trials in mid-1942 and with the Littorio-class battleship Roma proudly joined the Regia Marina in January of 1943.

The deteriorating military situation in Africa and Greece in 1941, however, made it clear that some offensive response by the Regia Marina was necessary if these theaters were to remain viable for the Axis powers.
