The Regulative Principle of Worship   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Regardless of the reason for the adoption of the normative principle of worship, it is clearly not in agreement with the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 and thus to hold that position would endanger the confessional position.
The regulative principle emphasizes the instituted elements of worship as the priority.
Worship according to the regulative principle does not jump on the bandwagon of high church liturgy, exclusive Psalmody, contemporary music, or normative additions of any kind from the motive of personal tastes.

Reports of the Committee on Song in Worship
In worship we are bound to observe the principles, regulations, and ordinances which they enjoin upon us—and those principles, regulations, and ordinances alone; what they do not prescribe we are not to observe.
Proper regard for God's prerogative of sovereignty in worship is the supreme safeguard against the adulterations of the spirituality of worship; disregard of God's prerogative of sovereignty in worship definitely tends toward the adulteration of the spirituality of worship.
The necessity of observing this principle is accentuated by the fallen state of man. The total corruption and deceitfulness of the unregenerate human heart disqualify men from judging as to what may be admitted into the content of worship.

 An Introduction to Reformed Worship
This principle of worship is sometimes, particularly in Reformed churches with Scottish roots (i.e., Presbyterian), called "The Regulative Principle of Worship." This term is seldom, if ever, used in Reformed churches with Dutch roots.
The Regulative Principle of Worship is a historic position of John Calvin and all Reformed churches, including the forebears of the Christian Reformed Church.
And the prophets knew very well that the worship of God did not consist in the circumstance of place, in respect to which the godly were left free, while as yet the ark of the covenant had no fixed place.

Regulative Principle: Part I   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Whenever men were not satisfied to worship God in the way that He had appointed — whenever they brought in their own inventions — He always made it perfectly clear that He did not accept it.
Worship which had been appointed by God was replaced by a new form of worship.
Here, then, is the uniform principle taught in the Old Testament Scriptures, summed up in these words of Moses: "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you" (Deut.

The Regulative Principle of Worship and Christmas   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Worship circumstances are virtually infinite in number, being based on the common agreement of men guided by "Christian prudence." Because man is created in the image of God and must live and function in God's created reality (the universe), he must live and function in accordance with that reality.
The idea that innovations in worship are permitted in family and private worship is unbiblical; it is totally arbitrary because it is not based on divine revelation.
And who does not see, that upon the very same principle the observance of holidays appointed by the Church, as ordinary and stated parts of Divine worship, is an expression of religious homage to man, who is the author of the appointment,--an unlawful acknowledgment of human or ecclesiastical authority in an act of worship.

Yet in spite of this admission he does not hesitate to say that this principle (the RPW) — that whatever is not commanded by God is therefore forbidden in worship — is not taught in the Bible.
And because Synagogue worship is not Temple worship, according to Rev. Schlissel, the RPW doesn’t apply.
This lecture was originally presented as the third in a series on Biblical Principles In Worship, at the 1999 Worship Conference held by the Presbyterian Reformed Church of Edmonton AB.

Kenneth Gentry expresses the Bible principle of family solidarity in God’s covenant dealings when he observes: ‘There is NOTHING in the New Testament that undermines and invalidates the Old Testament covenantal principle of family solidarity.
If these suggestions are followed, congregational worship, with all its joy, sanctity and beauty, is dissolved into an informal time of worship similar to what a father does in his own household.

Catholic traditionalism is the principle that the teachings and practices of the Church over time themselves have normative authority in determining what belongs to the authentic Gospel.
I suspect, despite my concerns with how the regulative worship principle (RWP) is sometimes applied within Reformed churches, that a growing lack of concern for the RWP within a Reformed body will inevitably lead to a willingness to accept Rome as a visible Church.
