Jewish and Israel News from New York - The Jewish Week
What caught Rehov’s attention were the television images of Mohammed al Dura, a young Palestinian boy allegedly killed in Gaza by Israeli troops while his father tried to shield him.
But what emerges from Rehov’s films is a sense that the Jews of the Arab world have gotten on with their lives, while the Palestinians are trapped by a self-seeking international bureaucracy working hand in glove with the Arab regimes.
Rehov’s film on the subject, “The Road to Jenin,” shows that myths have power even when they are contradicted by visual evidence.

One day after watching footage of al-Dura's death, Rehov, an Algerian-born Jew who lives in France, was thrust into action when he witnessed a pro-Palestinian rally in the streets of Paris, where demonstrators screamed "Death to the Jews." The al-Dura video had been videotaped by a Palestinian freelance photographer working for France 2 television.

In moments of deep personal introspection he questioned himself, “Who and what am I really?” For him, the answer came when he turned on the news on October 6, 2000, and saw the images of the shooting of Mohammed al-Dura, the 12 year-old Palestinian boy, whom Israel was summarily accused of targeting.
The day after al-Dura was shot, there was a pro-Palestinian rally in the streets of Paris, where the participants screamed, “Death to the Jews.” Rehov was reminded of one century ago when the exact same antisemitic scene played itself out on the streets of Paris prompted by the Alfred Dreyfus trial.
Rehov’s instincts told him that the death of Mohammed al-Dura was another blood libel against the Jews.

Hebrew University excavations strengthen dating of archaeological findings to David, Solomon
The scholars argue that these findings conclusively prove that they found at Tel Rehov signs of an urban society from the 10th century B.C.E. which can be compared with finds from other sites in Israel, such as Megiddo, Hazor and Gezer, which were attributed in the past to the United Monarchy.
The results show that two strata at Tel Rehov are safely dated to the 10th century B.C.E. One stratum was destroyed in heavy fire.
Thus, these results provide a new foundation for the traditional view concerning the attribution of occupation strata and buildings at Tel Rehov (and conjunctively other locales in the region) to the time of the United Monarchy of Solomon and David, and negates the view that all these finds should be dated to the 9th century.

 Film documents Arab Christians' woes
In "The Holy Land: Christians in Peril," a documentary to be released in September, Pierre Rehov explores the plight of Christianity in the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Beginning at Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity, where Palestinian Muslims allegedly held Christian monks hostage in a five-week standoff with the Israeli Army that ended in May, the film attempts to portray what Rehov says is the persecution of Christians at the hands of extremist Muslims.
Rehov said he is making the film to open the eyes of Christians worldwide to the struggles of their brothers and sisters in Palestine.

It's not surprising to anyone that Rehov, a French Jew of Algerian heritage, should make documentary films that expose the terrorist horrors through which Israel lives on a daily basis.
But what some might find surprising is that his latest work, "Holy Land: Christians in Peril," focuses on the plight and persecution of non-Jews in the Middle East — a subject rarely explored by filmmakers or journalists of any kind.
This is a film that has the power to wake up the slumbering Christian community oblivious to the suffering and oppression of their brothers and sisters around the world — the real martyrs of their faith.

New radioactive dating from a major Iron Age site called Tel Rehov in northern Israel supports the biblical tradition that David and his son Solomon, founders of the ancient kingdom of Israel, were real nation-builders and not largely mythical figures, as some revisionist historians have argued.
Recent excavations at Megiddo, 25 miles west of Rehov, had suggested that palaces and other artifacts there once associated with Solomon were built by a later family of rulers called the Omrides.
Because Tel Rehov was a 10-hectare urban center, the dating supports the biblical account of Solomon.
