Except for special exigencies, when there is need to keep the Guru Granth Sahib open during the night, Guru Granth Sahib should not be kept open during the night.
It should, generally, be closed ceremonially after the conclusion of the Rehras (evening scripture recitation).
Guru Granth Sahib should remain open so long as a granthi or attendant can remain in attendance, persons seeking darshan (seeking a view of or making obeisance to it) keep coming, or there is no risk of commission of irreverence towards it.

Is the book talking about long rehras as har jug jug bhagat to tis sahib kee tek with longer chaupai (kirpa karee...) or does it mean dukh daroo with shorter chaupai (kharag ket) and it was shortened from that to sodar through naam milae ta jeeva?
Also, I think my grandmother has a very old gutka from the 40s and it has rehras from har jug jug bhagat to tis sahib kee tekh but it has short chaupai sahib.
What I'm saying is, there isnt proof either way that rehras sahib is supposed to be the way it is for anyone.
