Also known as the Reichsmordwoche (The Blood Purge), took place over the night and early morning of SUnday July 1st, 1934.
The Sturm Abteilung came to an abrupt end that night, parts of it were re-absorbed into the SS or the Wehrmacht.

The Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, staged by Adolf Hitler and General Erich Ludendorff (a member of an impoverished Junker family) was foiled by commander von Lossow (another Junker) of the local Reichswehr, and the Bavarian Prime Minister Gustav von Kahr.
Von Kahr was later murdered in the Reichsmordwoche (the Blood Purge) of June 30, 1934.
This series of events, as well as a few others, led Hitler to dislike Junkers in general.

For other uses, see Night of the Long Knives (disambiguation).
The Night of the Long Knives (June 30 and Sunday July 1, 1934) (German, Nacht der langen Messer), also known as Reichsmordwoche, "Operation Hummingbird" or "the Blood Purge", was a lethal purge of Adolf Hitler's potential political rivals in the Sturmabteilung (SA; also known as storm troopers or brownshirts).
The SA was the paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party that had helped the Nazis rise to power in the Twenties, culminating with Hitler being appointed Chancellor of Germany in 1933.

Common Ground Common Sense > CIA purge is the same thing Hilter did
The Night of the Long Knives, also known as Reichsmordwoche or "the Blood Purge"...
These CIA shakeups are a serious thing and I don't want to shrug them off; however at the same time it's probably not a fair comparison to equate people being fired or changing offices with The Night of Long Knives, where Hitler murdered his political opponents.

Captain Hair @ 12/26/2004 9:09:04 PM Oh, yes, I'm eighteen years old and consider myself to be fairly well-versed in the events leading up to World War II.
Most people do not know the Reichsmordwoche, as education in the United States basically consists of:
There is little mention of the Reichsmordwoche, his alliance with Mussolini, persecution of homosexuals, the elderly, gyspies, and others, how he was able to rise to power with the support of the people, etc. Most of the history taught in the United States is taught from the view of the USA at that time:

Mostly brawling took place, but occasionaly hand to hand weapons were used.
What's ironic was that though the SA helped Hitler solidify his power in the first place, they were eventually purged during the Reichsmordwoche of 1934, or "Blood Purge" (more commonly known as The Night of the Long Knives).
By "street battles" and "fighting" do you mean with actual guns?
