Reign of Fire for the Xbox is based on the 2002's summer film by the same name, starring Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale.
At its core, Reign of Fire is a vehicular shooter.
Reign of Fire's orchestral score does well to give a feeling of purpose, but most of it is set in short loops, and get rather grating by the end of a mission.

In ten minutes, Reign of Fire has already provided a (simplistic, yes) look at the British plight in the early years of the war in addition to offering a cautionary anti-nuke warning based on the theoretically ill-considered end of said war.
Reign of Fire hits DVD in a package from Touchstone that fans of the film will probably wish had a little more meat on its bones.

Reign of Fire exists primarily to give us a bigger and better dragon than the Vermithrax Pejorative of 1981's classic Dragonslayer, and in that regard, the special effects are mightily impressive; the reptilian fire-breathers are stupendously convincing.
Twenty years later as a "fire chief," he tries to keep a group of refugees alive with fierce dragons dominating the air, burning the land and feeding on the ash.
All in all, Reign of Fire is a masterful high grade B-movie that shines without the Hollywood gloss, and is a true treat of a film.

Reign of Fire offers an "advanced" scheme, in which the left analog stick controls the vehicle, and the right analog stick aims the weaponry, and a "simple" setup, in which the left stick handles both functions, and the square and X buttons accelerate and brake.
Several of the unfortunate seed-sowers have been set ablaze by the attacking dragons, and they continue to run in circles and do their "human torch" impressions for as long as you decide to let them burn.

Reign of Fire is the sort of action-packed, special-effects extravaganza that epitomizes the summer blockbuster.
Implicit in the contract between moviegoer and moviemaker during the summer is that the audience attempts to suspend disbelief while the studio produces whiz-bang stunning effects designed to elicit oos and ahs during the brief window of logic deferral.
Reign of Fire at least does a passable job on that front, with swooping, lunging dragons that are at least as pretty as the previous landmark entries in this genre, the classic Dragonslayer and the more recent Dragonheart.

Because, you either get a company that realized the movie was bad, and makes a game that doesn't really relate to the movie, or they make one that does and it sucks really, really bad.
Reign of Fire got mixed reviews...basically a semi-boring action movie that had plot holes galore.
Trying to have you do both independently would have doomed this game immediately, but they apparently realized that fairly quickly, because the alternate control scheme they have actually has you aiming with the right stick and driving with the left.

That being said, “Reign of Fire” is one of the more entertaining and refreshing premises to come along for an apocalypse film in ages, and as a summer film, is at times a pleasant if albeit flawed diversion.

In a nice departure from many film licences, Reign Of Fire allows you to play as either the humans or the dragons.
Unfortunately, Reign Of Fire's control system will get you killed more often than your own gaming ineptitude and to be honest, there are anointed saints who lack the patience to persevere with these controls.

Whether it’s the Mulcahy-esque visuals or the fact that this is the first good dragon movie since 1981’s Dragonslayer, Reign of Fire definitely has an early ‘80s fantasy film vibe going for it.
That the story (with the Reign screenplay credited to Matt Greenberg and Terry Hayes) is ultimately a problematic one is, well, a problem.
Dragons are awakened in present day London (an opening that might’ve been at home in a Quartermass movie) and a brief montage referencing faux newspaper and magazine clippings quickly brings us up to speed to the present (uh, that'd be the future) where dragons have scorched the earth and sent the remaining humans into hiding.

Reign of Fire was also lighter than typical in foul language.
